Defy by Sienna Snow is the second book in the Violent Delights series and it follows the tumultuous love story of Sophia Morelli and Damon Pierce. I have conflicting feelings about this book because while I loved their sexy relationship, I also thought it was extremely messy due to the miscommunication and secrets between them. At one point, I was very frustrated with Sophia because she was being immature and disrespectful towards Damon—especially with her safety and refusal to tell him the truth. The fact that she had a murder charge over her head did not deter her from danger at all. It doesn't help that Damon tolerates her bratty side and seems to like it when she talks back to him. They were truly opposites in terms of personality because while Damon is possessive and controlling, Sophia is defiant and highly values her independence due to past trauma with her parents. It was a recipe for disaster with a potential for heartbreak.

"It's impossible for me to let you go. Even if the best thing for you is to do just that."

In the end, I enjoyed reading the continuation of Damon and Sophia's story even though they frustrated me at times with their decisions. As expected, the sexual chemistry between these two was super steamy and I wanted more of that instead of the unnecessary drama because of the murder charge. It is unfortunate that Damon and Sophia will need to sort out of their own issues before they can truly obtain their happy ending. Sophia is the type of person who does not like to be controlled but Damon thrives on that feeling because he views it as being protective of her. I am curious to know how Sienna Snow will end their story because the book ends with heartbreak once again for the two of them.

Claim by Sienna Snow

Sophia Morelli has always been known as the "wild child" in the family but what we thought we knew about her partying ways was only a facade. Claim by Sienna Snow is her story with the enigmatic, possessive, and brooding Damon Pierce. I was pleasantly surprised by this book and loved how the author was able to use what we already knew about Sophia and develop her into such a strong but vulnerable heroine. This vulnerability of hers would eventually capture the attention of Damon Pierce, Lucian Morelli's best friend, and throw them both into a whirlwind romance that neither expected. Despite my frustrations with Damon's hot and cold attitude regarding Sophia, I liked that he owned up to it because he simply could not stay away from her. He tried to push her away because of his past but like a moth to a flame, Damon was obsessed with her and grew increasingly possessive of Sophia.

"Claiming you means you're mine, Sophia. I will use any means necessary to protect you. I'm not letting you go. I can't… There is no escape for you now."

In the end, Sophia Morelli and Damon Pierce's story was an unexpected surprise and I really enjoyed their explosive, intense, dirty, and incredibly spicy relationship. I was impressed by Sienna Snow's writing and characterization. This book does end with a cliffhanger that left me speechless and frustrated because it made me want to read Defy immediately. Lucian Morelli from Heartless made a spectacular cameo in Sophia's book, which comes as no surprise as she was close to him. I loved their relationship because Lucian tried to be protective older brother but failed to persuade Sophia and Damon away from each other. I appreciated the fact that they had their own issues to overcome—Damon was haunted by a failed relationship while Sophia was pretending to be someone she was not. Fans of the Midnight Dynasty world will not want to miss out on Sophia and Damon's book because it features a sweet but powerful heroine who knows her own worth and isn't afraid to challenge her brooding and possessive hero.

Flight Risk by Amelia Wilde

Jameson Hill has always considered himself to be a crime scene and the mask that he wears for his family is starting to crack. An impulsive decision to kidnap Lily Hayes, the granddaughter of the judge who condemned the Hill's to a difficult life early on after the death of parents, will have devastating consequences and bring together two people from opposites sides who were never supposed to meet and fall in love. Jameson—just like his brothers, Mason and Gabriel, is a broken man who hides behind a cheerful facade that is starting fall apart. Amelia Wilde continues to blow me away with her stories and characters because I went from being conflicted about what Jameson was doing to feeling sympathetic to his brokenness. The fact that he talks to Snowball, a bird that he rescued, was incredibly endearing and charming. Lily herself was also a force to be reckoned with—brave, innocent, kind, understanding, and defiant. Her interactions and chemistry with Jameson were explosive, charged, and steamy.

"I'd rather exist for her entertainment than be a human crime scene, seconds away from exploding into fresh heartache."

In the end, I loved reading Jameson and Lily's beginning. The book does end with a shocking cliffhanger and now it's Lily's turn to change Jameson's world and outlook on life. Despite their rough beginning, it didn't take long for both characters to start caring for each other. In many ways, her chance meeting with Jameson has irrevocably changed her perspective on the meaning of justice, her grandfather's shady dealings, and the path of law school that was initially set out for her. All she ever wanted was freedom and she experienced that with Jameson. I'm excited to see what Amelia Wilde will have in store for these two free-spirited individuals who might be each other's salvation. Fans of Mason Hill (Net Worth) and Gabriel Hill (Power Play) will not want to miss out on this story because it features the youngest brother who has always been known to seek justice against the corrupted.

Three to Get Ready by Skye Warren

Three to Get Ready by Skye Warren marks the conclusion of Eva Morelli and Finn Hughes' emotional love story as they are forced to contend with the public fallout of the Hughes curse and the personal ramifications that come with it. I have always thought that Eva and Finn made a great couple and this was further exemplified by the fact that they were there for each other—no matter what. While Finn has given up and is resolute about his future, Eva is determined to fix it and not give up hope. It was heartbreaking to see her come to realize the reality of their situation and come to terms with the curse. However, I loved seeing how Finn became her solid rock during a time when she needed him the most. The prospect of losing Finn and eventually her child to the curse was too much for her to process.

"Love doesn't fix everything, but it makes it worth fixing."

In the end, Eva and Finn's story is about loving and living in the present moment and coming to terms with the fact that because human lives are so short, it is better to make the most of the here and now. The trilogy does end in a positive note with Eva and Finn surrounded by those they love. I was looking forward to Will LeBlanc's appearance because we got a sneak peak of his interaction with Finn in Coercion. I just wish it was longer and we got to see what happened in the aftermath. While I did enjoy this series, I felt like it could have been condensed because of how short the books were. Eva and Finn's entire story could be read in one sitting. I highly recommend this trilogy who love an angsty and heartbreaking romance, especially with a charming and handsome hero who is devoted to his incredibly sweet and loving heroine.

Coercion by Amelia Wilde

Amelia Wilde concludes Will LeBlanc and Bristol Anderson's emotional story in Coercion as they are confronted with the disappearance and kidnapping of the twins—Mia and Ben, the loose ends and knots of Will's past, and the realization of his love not only for Bristol and her siblings but also his brothers: Sinclair and Emerson. The author has truly crafted a beautiful and romantic tale of love and forgiveness. At it's core, Will and Bristol's story is one of unconditional love and having the courage to move on from past hurts and towards the future. Will has experienced tremendous growth in his ability to show love and affection to those he cares about. This is especially apparent in his interactions with Bristol—the constant teasing, flirting, and declaration of love for her was completely new for the both of them. Instead of condemning himself to a life of anger and loneliness, Will has realized how much he needs Bristol and his family. He no longer needs to fight and is finally free from the chains of his past.

"I want all the sides of him. The man who bites and hurts and the man who lets his feelings show on his face even when he doesn't want to."

As for Bristol, her life has changed dramatically since meeting Will. Watching her fall for him was such a heartbreaking but also beautiful thing to witness because he was learning how to love her at the same time. Since Bristol wears her heart on her sleeve and accepts all of him, Will is forced to come to terms with his anger and monstrosity in order to find the strength to forgive and redeem himself. I loved seeing him transform into the man he was always meant to be—one who easily smiles, adores Bristol, and wants all of her dreams to come true. Emerson's story also comes full circle as the LeBlanc brothers become a true family and reconcile with their mother. Finn Hughes also makes a brief appearance and we're given a sneak peek of what may be in store for readers in Three to Get Ready.

"You're everything to me. You're more than I could ever deserve."

In the end, fans of Amelia Wilde and the Midnight Dynasty series will not want to miss out on this truly emotional, romantic, and angsty story between two characters whose lives were never meant to intersect with each other but fate intervened. If Bristol hadn't stolen from Will to save her family, she would have never interacted with Will beyond a personal level and he wouldn't have blackmailed her as a result. Amelia Wilde also gives us another intriguing and alluring teaser between Sinclar LeBlanc and Vivian Constantine for their future book, Cross Your Heart, that has me dying for more. The instant spark and chemistry between these two? Explosive. Sinclair investigates secrets and Vivian has plenty. I hope that Evan, Will's leading security detail, will also get a future book. I'm sensing that there is more to him than meets the eye, specifically a past heartbreak and/or loss. I highly recommend this trilogy to those who loves the broken and tortured hero who never wanted love but finds it in the most unexpected ways and falls deeply in love with his selfless and sweet heroine.

Extortion by Amelia Wilde

Amelia Wilde returns with Extortion, the continuation of Will LeBlanc and Bristol Anderson's complicated and emotional story as they are forced to acknowledge and confront their feelings for each other. These two simply burned up the pages with their incredible chemistry, rough and dirty sex, and heartbreaking romance. Bristol is left picking up the broken pieces of her heart following Will's sudden departure. Without a goodbye from the man she was falling for, Bristol attempts to move on by taking another temporary job at Hughes Financial Services. Will thought he was doing Bristol a favor when he left her behind but this has backfired on him—he is miserable, angry, and misses her terribly. However, fate intervenes unexpectedly and they meet again but she is no longer working for him.

"But he didn't feel like a cliché to me. He felt like a secret stretch of sand by the ocean. Beautiful and rocky and wild."

Will continues to fascinate me because he is the type of character who wants what he shouldn't have. Although he believes he is undeserving of her warmth, love, and kindness, Will wants this so desperately. I thought this trait was incredibly precious because despite all his attempts at pushing her away, Bristol accepts and loves all of him... including his monstrosity. There is no denying that Will and Bristol are meant to be together but their relationship is complicated by the fact that he is unable to let go of his anger and past. Although he tries to close himself off from his family and Bristol, Will can't help but want to share parts of his life with her and wanting more. I also love that Bristol has become more assertive and confident with Will because she knows exactly who she wants this time.

"All the money in the world couldn't keep me from wanting her like this. Like a monster."

In the end, I absolutely can't wait for Coercion because this book ends with a heart-stopping and emotional cliffhanger that left me reeling from shock. It was completely unexpected and I am worried for Will and Bristol. This book had just the right amount of angst and steamy love scenes. I also loved Will's internal conflict as he is forced to reckon with his own feelings for Bristol. He wants her so desperately but believes that she deserves better than him. In many ways, Will reminds me of Amelia's previous heroes: Gabriel Hill and Leo Morelli. Fans of the Midnight Dynasty universe will be happy to know that some characters also make an appearance. I want to note that Will and Bristol's story also intersects with Skye Warren's Two for the Show. I highly recommend this book to those who loves the tortured and prickly hero who wants to love his sweet and selfless heroine but doesn't believe he deserves her.

Ace of Diamonds by Alta Hensley

Ace of Diamonds is the final book in the Wonderland trilogy and conclusion to Nick Hudson and Lyriope Morelli's obsessive and maddening love as they seek to overcome the odds against them. Lyriope made some questionable decisions that frustrated me. I was confused by her sudden desire for Bryant Morelli's love and acceptance when he treated her horribly. Instead of accepting Nick's love and offer of freedom, she stayed in a situation that was abusive and harmful to her. In her attempt to gain her father's approval, Lyriope's naivety and need to be part of a family almost killed her. Nick, who has been watching on the sidelines and waiting all this time, wanted her to come to terms with her own situation before making his move. There was no doubt that he was ever going to let her go—she was his.

"Wonderland. It was my everything… Until she entered my life. Now it's her. Only her. She is my everything. And I believe she knows it."

Despite my frustrations, Nick and Lyriope's story was a whirlwind of emotions and all-consuming lust. The love scenes were incredibly erotic and dirty—Alta simply excels at building up the sexual chemistry of her characters. Nick's obsessive love for Lyriope was a heady thing to witness because he wanted to own all of her. The same can be said for Lyriope whose sexual inhibitions and desires flourished because of Nick. She was equally as obsessed and in love with him. However, Lyriope's decision to stay with her father also meant that she could not be with Nick. Bryant had arranged for her to be married immediately to the Sidorovs. I honestly had no expectations for Bryant Morelli. Lyriope deserved better. I wanted her to realize that he was never going to see her as his daughter and to stop making excuses for him. Unfortunately, she didn't come to this realization until the end.

"Nothing about you and me and the life we'll live will be ordinary. Our love is extraordinary. Our love crosses into madness, my queen, and I don't want it any other way."

In the end, I enjoyed Nick and Lyriope's tumultuous love story because it was unexpected, emotional at times, and extremely spicy. Even though Lyriope took some time to be the queen that Nick needed her to be, she was able to overcome her own shortcomings and forsake Bryant Morelli for her chosen family. We might be getting a book for Harrison, Nick's right-hand man, and Sasha Morelli—Lyriope's sassy and confident cousin. I'm rather curious about these two and hope Alta will be writing a book for them in the future. Fans of Alta Hensley and the Midnight Dynasty world will not want to miss out on this hot and steamy romance with many references to Alice and Wonderland. I recommend this trilogy to those who like reading the dark billionaire trope with a possessive and controlling "Mad Hatter" of a hero who will do anything to own his defiant and stubborn "Queen of Hearts."

Upper Hand by Amelia Wilde

Upper Hand by Amelia Wilde is the continuation of Gabriel Hill and Elise Bettencourt's story as they battle feelings for each other while overcoming the secrets and dangers of the consortium that Mason Hill first attempted to unravel in Net Worth. There is no denying that Gabriel is a broken man; he will need a strong and empathetic heroine to be his anchor and "home." Elise is that woman but her heart keeps getting broken by him. Despite my frustrations with these two, I thought Gabriel and Elise were perfect for each other because she understood him and his reasons for revenge and never faulted him for using her. It was clear that Gabriel never wanted to hurt Elise but his path was already set and determined for him. In addition to thinking of himself as worthless and undeserving love, Gabriel has always used his charismatic facade as both a weapon and shield against others—Elise was the only exception.

"I want him on a level beyond guilt and debt and revenge. I want him because nothing else feels as good as being in his arms."

I do have to mention that there was a scene I particularly disliked because it made me extremely uncomfortable and took me out of the romance between Gabriel and Elise. Unfortunately, it had to do with the consortium and their initiation. As Gabriel becomes more entrenched in their clutches, Elise makes a decision that may have dire consequences for the both of them. Elise was an interesting heroine to root for because she grew up learning about her family's cruelty, especially her father's evil manipulations, and tried to leave it all behind only to get pulled back into the fold by the man she loved. It was frustrating to see her struggle and hurt by her family because she was just as deserving of love as Gabriel.

"I'd rather die than live without her, but I'll pay any price to keep her alive."

In the end, I enjoyed this book and will be looking forward to the conclusion of Gabriel and Elise's story in Fair Game because no surprise—their story ends in a shocking cliffhanger that left me reeling from the parallelism. I refuse to believe Gabriel and Elise were that naive into thinking that Bettencourt would not retaliate against them. I liked that the author particularly focused more on the romance in this installment because Gabriel and Elise's feelings for each other were finally recognized. Their love scenes, while few, were sensual and erotic. I highly recommend this to those who like reading angst and the enemies to lovers trope with a broken and self-destructing hero who loves and will do everything in his power to protect his hopelessly sweet and caring heroine.

Two For the Show by Skye Warren

Two for the Show by Skye Warren is the continuation of Finn Hughes and Eva Morelli's emotional and heartbreaking love story as they seek to understand and move forward with or without each other. This book surprised me because we're given a much better understanding of Finn's character and his internal struggles against the so-called "curse." I never realized how fatalistic he was—especially when it came to his future with Eva. Finn was so focused on what could potentially happen to him that he never considered living happily in the present. Despite wanting him to grovel for Eva's forgiveness, I couldn't even bring myself to fault him because he was so scared of forgetting everything. The fact that he witnessed his own father deteriorate mentally over the years only exacerbated his hopelessness. To this end, he broke Eva's heart by pushing her away only to find out that he had left his own heart and future with her.

"I never wanted to pretend. I wanted it to be real, and it couldn't be. My life is a sham that will end in more secrecy and shame. But damn it, she was real."

While I was emotionally invested in Finn and Eva's romance, I was also frustrated by it as well because I wanted them to better communicate with each other. Eva had every right to be upset with Finn because he broke her heart and left her with an unexpected surprise. However, she gave into him so easily. I wanted Finn to realize what he was missing and the life he could have had with Eva—and he did, but it took almost the entire book for him to come to terms with his love for her. Most of the book focused on Finn's internal struggle of loving Eva and wanting to push her away because she deserved someone better than him. Eva herself also goes through some character development as she comes to terms with her own pregnancy and potential future with Finn. I loved all of the character cameos and it was so heartwarming to see the close bond and relationship that Eva had with Leo Morelli.

"I don't give up on the people I love, even when it's hard. Even when it's awful. Even when it seems like there's no light at the end of the tunnel."

In the end, I enjoyed this book and will be looking forward to reading the conclusion to Eva and Finn's story. The cliffhanger ending was expected but still surprising nonetheless. I'm worried that Finn will go back to being an idiot and give up on his future but I know that Eva will never give up on him. Despite my irritation with Finn, reading about his personal struggles and feelings over dementia softened my heart towards him. Behind that charming, suave, and reckless persona lies a broken and fatalistic man. There is no denying that Eva is the perfect woman for Finn because she will always support and love him. Fans of the surprise pregnancy and fake relationship tropes will certainly love this sweet but heartbreaking trilogy featuring two prominent characters in the Midnight Dynasty universe.

Force of Nature by Skye Warren & Amelia Wilde

Force of Nature by Skye Warren and Amelia Wilde was certainly an unexpected departure from The Crash with the introduction of a new stranger on the island. I had my own reservations about this character, especially when it came to how his role and dynamic will affect Carter Morelli and June Porter. Unfortunately, I wasn't completely sold on the ménage relationship considering that it was mostly founded on lust and instant attraction. I was more interested in the budding relationship between June and Carter instead as they initially sought to take cover from those seeking them harm. As they travel further into the jungle, Carter is forced to contend with his identity and feelings for June as well as the sudden appearance of the mysterious man.

"It's as if he's memorizing me—the feel of me. The taste. As if he's taking the last kiss he'll ever have."

I was slightly disappointed by this story because I expected more from Carter and June. Even after finishing the book, I still couldn't grasp who they we’re as characters. Carter Morelli is haunted by his family's legacy and is adamant about being a sinner. But why? Carter has lived a good life while distancing himself from his family and hiding his double life from them. As for June, she is a struggling photographer with a difficult childhood. The mysterious man is even more of an enigma because of his religious upbringing and contradictory nature. They had nothing in common with each other. The addition of Theo only further complicated Carter and June's relationship.

"This woman is like the actual sun—cheerful like a giant burning star. She's burning me."

If you like the forced proximity and grumpy/sunshine tropes with the added bonus of MMF, then you won't be disappointed by Carter, June, and Theo's complicated relationship. There is no denying that the sex scenes were extremely erotic, filthy, and almost dreamlike in a way—this fits perfectly with the mood of this book because everything felt like a dream or hallucination. While this story is part of the Midnight Dynasty universe, it can be read as a standalone. I do have to say that the story was fast-paced and made for an entertaining read. At first, it was a survival story between Carter and June but then it transformed into an entirely different one with the introduction of Theo. The book does end with a twist of a cliffhanger that will make readers question everything.

The Reckless Union by Monica Murphy

The Reckless Union is the final book in the Arranged Marriage trilogy by Monica Murphy featuring Perry Constantine and Charlotte Lancaster. What began as a marriage of convenience between two strangers has transformed into one of love and passion between the two. This book immediately picks up after the events of The Ruthless Groom and Charlotte is in danger following her reckless decision to meet up with Seamus McTiernan—the "antagonist" of the story. Truthfully, I wasn't exactly sold on this supposed villain because he reeked of desperation and selfishness. His decision to kidnap Charlotte was hilariously idiotic considering that she was already married to Perry and would never take him back. I was glad this issue was resolved relatively quickly as I was more interested in the developing relationship between Perry and Charlotte.

"No one ever believes in me. Or thinks I'm capable of taking care of myself. Until you."

There is no denying the fact that Perry and Charlotte have grown as characters, especially as a couple, since we first met them in The Reluctant Bride. Charlotte had to experience some internal growth and realization of her love for Perry. Although she briefly became a shell of herself, I loved that Perry was able to help her find herself again. On the other hand, Perry remains true to the character that I have always known him to be ever since we were first introduced to him in Skyscraper Cinderella—extremely loyal, reckless, caring, carefree, and capable of love. The colorful nicknames he had for Seamus were hilarious and creative. I personally thought he experienced the most change after he almost lost Charlotte and realized his love for her. Perry knew that he had to grew up, and he did.

"I would do anything for her. Just to make her feel safe. Just to see her smile."

In the end, I enjoyed this trilogy and would recommend it to fans of the Midnight Dynasty world because it features the reckless and lovable Perry Constantine—a prominent and recurring character that has been featured in several books so far. Charlotte and Perry simply burned up the pages with their chemistry and passion for each other. It was interesting to note that the more Perry became possessive of Charlotte, the more secure and happy she felt in their relationship. Even though it took time for their love to develop, I was still captivated by their relationship because it felt natural for them to be unsure at first. This was, after all, an arranged marriage between two people who have never met each other before. I recommend this series to those who like the arranged marriage trope between a recklessly charming and possessive hero with his sweet and doubtful heroine.

Blackmail by Amelia Wilde

Blackmail is the first book in a new trilogy by Amelia Wilde featuring Bristol Anderson and Will LeBlanc—Emerson LeBlanc's youngest brother from Dark Reign. What began as a simple attraction between two characters from vastly different circumstances has turned into a complicated and heartbreaking affair. Will is a contradiction because his refusal to accept kindness, understanding, and love has made them the things he covets the most. He is prone to anger and believes himself to be a monster who is undeserving of everything. What makes Will's story so fascinating is that we're given a much clearer picture of what happened to the LeBlanc siblings when they were younger. Will's guilt and pain over what happened has a direct correlation to Emerson's internal struggles and panic attacks.

"You deserve somebody better, sweetheart. I'm not that guy. I'm a monster. You don't want me. I promise."

Bristol is the type of heroine I love the most—she is kind, innocent, understanding, and determined. In order to save her family, she was willing to do whatever was necessary for them even at the cost of her own body and heart. I hated the fact that she still cared for pathetic excuse of a father when he manipulated and lied to her. Her decision to embezzle from Will would give him the excuse he needed to finally engage and claim her as his for a brief moment in time. I actually loved their relationship, as twisted as it may be. These two burned up the pages and their love scenes were incredibly hot and dirty. I love the fact that Will fell for Bristol first because he was completely obsessed and could not stop thinking about her. Amelia Wilde simply excels at amping up the sexual tension and chemistry between her characters.

"This debt is getting more expensive. I made a mistake that's going to cost me a very high price… my body, my dignity, and maybe even my heart."

In the end, I absolutely can't recommend this book enough because it had just the right amount of angst, dirty sex, and a heart-wrenching romance coming from an Amelia Wilde book. I am highly anticipating the sequel, Extortion. Although Will believes himself to be a monster, he is anything but that. There was so much more to him and I can't wait to learn more about this man with such a fragile and broken heart. It was heartbreaking to learn that Will expected people to walk away from him at such a young age. Why would they stay for him? Bristol's kindness and understanding for him has threatened his world and is destroying the person he thought he was. I highly recommend this book to those who loves reading about the tortured and prickly hero who blackmails his sweet and selfless heroine but ends up falling for her even though he doesn't believe he deserves her.

The Crash by Skye Warren and Amelia Wilde

The Crash is the prequel to Force of Nature, which tells the story of Carter Morelli from the Midnight Dynasty world and his entanglement with June Porter. I have been looking forward to Carter's story ever since he was first mentioned and introduced in Tiernan Morelli's story in Dangerous Temptation. This secretive and mysterious Morelli is much more than meets the eye because he only shows the world and his family a part of himself—not who he truly is: A broken and morally gray individual who lives a secret life. I thought this was a fantastic introduction to his character and I absolutely can't wait to know more about him. June is an entirely new character but I loved how innocent and hopeful she is. Carter's attraction to June is immediate and visceral when they first meet. Although he finds her bubbly and hopeful nature irritating at first, Carter can't help but want to protect and claim her as his.

"I'm not good. I'm not safe, and I never have been. I've been poison since the day I was born."

In the end, this was a fantastic introduction to Carter Morelli and June Porter's upcoming story and I can't wait to see how everything will unfold in the main book. Both are stranded on a remote island and the only path to survival lies further in the jungle… but are they really alone? As they are being hunted by unknown forces, Carter is forced to protect June from danger—including himself. Fans of Amelia Wilde and Skye Warren will certainly not want to miss out on this new and upcoming story featuring Carter Morelli as he previously played a role in Tiernan's character development and Daphne's subsequent reunion with Emerson in her story. I am definitely intrigued by Carter's secret life and am looking forward to seeing how his relationship with June will develop even further. I recommend this book to those who like the forced proximity trope with a seemingly normal but possessive hero who lives a double life and a heroine who is the perfect match to his darkness—innocent, humble, and hopeful. Their attraction to each other is explosive with a potential to spark fires.

Queen of Hearts by Alta Hensley

Queen of Hearts is the latest installment in the Wonderland trilogy by Alta Hensley and it exceeded my expectations in terms of character growth, romance, and steaminess. Nick and Lyriope had incredible sexual chemistry and I was not disappointed when they finally took the next step in their relationship. This book immediately picks up where King of Spades last left off, which means that Lyriope has decided to run away from Nick. What ensues is a game of cat and mouse as Nick obsessively stalks Lyriope to Italy and claims her once and for all. Although the plot of the story remains stagnant for much of the book, Nick and Lyriope experience tremendous development as characters and in their own relationship with each other—especially since feelings are now finally involved. In addition to their developing romance, the smut scenes between Nick and Lyriope were incredibly hot, dirty, and even heartbreaking at times. I loved every single scene.

"You belong to me, Lyriope. Not on paper. Not because of an agreement. You belong to me the same way I belong to you."

The story begins with the consequences of Lyriope's decision to run away as Nick is astonished and infuriated over her disappearance. He vows to find Lyriope and punish her for her actions. Lyriope eventually arrives in Italy as her cousin, Sasha Morelli, and immediately regrets her decision. She is afraid and knows that Nick will find her soon—and she is correct. I was honestly quite amused over how fast Nick was able to find Lyriope because she really didn't think this through at all. However, their reunion was everything I expected and more because what transpired between the two had me on the edge of my seat. Nick is just the right amount of cruel and sadistic for Lyriope as he attempts to make her "pay" for leaving him. Despite her innocence, Lyriope knows exactly what and who she wants because meeting Nick has allowed her to blossom not only emotionally but sexually as well.

"This isn't a love story I'm in. I feel like I'm suffocating, but I also have never felt so alive."

In the end, I simply devoured this book and cannot wait to read Ace of Diamonds because the book ends with a heartbreaking cliffhanger. Betrayal, revenge, and redemption will most likely be the main themes for the final book in the Wonderland trilogy as Nick desperately tries to reclaim Lyriope no matter the cost. Lyriope and Nick have finally acknowledged their feelings for each other but unfortunately, there was a major cost. At first, I wasn't sure how I felt about Lyriope and Nick but this book changed everything for me. Furthermore, Lyriope went from this insecure and naive young woman to someone who is willing to finally take control of her destiny and lineage. Nick went from this mysterious and cruel character with the wicked smiles to be someone who had been merely surviving until he met Lyriope and she allowed him to feel once and for all. I recommend this book to those who like reading the dark billionaire romance trope with an anti-hero who considers himself the villain in this story and does everything in his power to keep his heroine.

The Ruthless Groom by Monica Murphy

Following the cliffhanger ending that shattered the temporary truce and happiness that Charlotte and Perry found in The Reluctant Bride, the story in The Ruthless Groom picks up immediately where the previous book left off. Seamus McTiernan has re-entered Charlotte Lancaster's life and is determined to destroy her relationship and marriage with Perry Constantine. Although we still do not know the reason why, Charlotte and Perry's marriage ceremony and show must go on despite their frustrations at the situation. I thought this was an excellent sequel to the first book as Perry and Charlotte's relationship experience a transformation as they navigate the angst and drama that comes with being a couple. They went from indifferent strangers in an arranged marriage to reluctant allies and eventually lovers. The sexual chemistry and tension between these two was super steamy and hot.

"She's the most valuable thing in the world. My world. The Chevelle isn't my most prized possession. My wife is."

Despite wanting to shake Perry for making assumptions and distrusting Charlotte, I loved how honest they were with their bodies. There is no denying the fact that these two are incredibly attracted to each other because they simply burned up the pages with every interaction since much of it takes place during Perry and Charlotte's honeymoon. I also enjoyed the hate/love dynamic that these two had because of Charlotte's past. If I were to sum up Perry and Charlotte's relationship in a few words it would be "a blossoming and fragile love." As the second son in the Constantine family, Perry was reckless with his life and spoiled but he always had a heart of gold. In a way, Perry is Charlotte's white knight and I truly believe she deserves him too. As someone who wears her heart on her sleeve, meeting Perry was Charlotte's one chance at happiness and a love like no other.

"He's so deeply embedded inside of me it's as if we're fused together. Like we belong to each other."

In the end, Perry and Charlotte's smoking hot and angsty relationship will continue in The Reckless Union as we're all left reeling from another shocking cliffhanger ending. The enemy has finally made their move and Perry will stop at nothing to keep Charlotte safe because she is his. I absolutely loved how Perry went from this charming and affable young man to someone who is equally possessive, dirty, dominant, and ruthless—just like his older brother, Winston Constantine from Skyscraper Cinderella. I have a soft spot for Perry Constantine and Monica Murphy has done a wonderful job with his character. I simply can't wait to see how it all ends because I am actively rooting for Charlotte and Perry's happy ending. Fans of the Midnight Dynasty world will not want to miss out on this latest installment in the story! I highly recommend this trilogy to those who love the arranged marriage trope as well as the push/pull dynamic between the seemingly charming but possessive hero and his sweet but naive heroine.

One for the Money by Skye Warren

Eva Morelli finally gets to shine in the latest Midnight Dynasty book, One for the Money. I had been highly anticipating her story ever since Skye Warren first teased about it in Meet Me Under the Mistletoe. We were given a glimpse of Eva and Finn's potential relationship then and it was clear to me that their story was going to focus on the secrets that both kept under the surface. While this book can be read as a standalone, I highly recommend reading other books in the Midnight Dynasty world, specifically Beast of Bishop's Landing, as it will make for a much better experience and you will know what Eva has been through. I really enjoyed Eva and Finn's story and thought their relationship was heartbreaking, sexy, and emotional. It had everything that I loved most about this author's writing—angst, fake dating/marriage, and a dirty talking hero. Eva's book is a lot less "darker" than her siblings, which I thought was quite refreshing considering the fact that her brothers went to extreme lengths to possess their heroines.

"Every second that I spend with her, I'm one step closer to the end."

Eva has always been the dependable and loyal older sibling in the Morelli family. Not only does she look after her family but they also look to her for guidance and advice. What we’ve come to realize, however, was that she didn’t have anyone who looked after her. I absolutely adore Eva because of her kind and loving nature. She was stubborn, persistent, and would do anything for those she loved—including sacrificing herself. On the other side, Finn Hughes may appear as Eva's opposite but there is more to this man than meets the eye. Although he comes off as this roguish, charming, and playboy billionaire, there is a duality to his character because of the secret he is keeping. Finn and Eva share similar personality traits because both are willing to sacrifice themselves for their families. While I do have mixed thoughts about Finn, I am willing to give him the benefit of the doubt because Eva deserves more from him.

"Make me forget that I'm me and you're you. Make me forget that this is only pretend."

In the end, Eva and Finn's whirlwind romance will have you aching for more because this was a spectacular beginning to their heartbreaking relationship. The ending to this book frustrated me because Eva deserves the world and more than what Finn is giving her. I better see some high quality groveling from this man in Two for the Show or else Leo is going to kick him to curb. I understand where Finn is coming from, especially if he has been taught to think of that while growing up, but there is more to life than only living in the moment or 'for now.' Fans of Skye Warren and the Midnight Dynasty world will not be disappointed by this book and I highly recommend it to those who love angst and the fake dating/marriage romance with a seemingly charming and arrogant hero and his slightly older but sweet heroine.

The Reluctant Bride by Monica Murphy

Monica Murphy certainly intrigued and captured my attention in The Reluctant Bride because she finally brings to life one of the characters that I had been highly anticipating to read in the Midnight Dynasty series: Perry Constantine. We first met him in Skyscraper Cinderella and I remember loving how fun, kind, and protective he was. I find it incredible that the author was able to use these character traits of his and expand on it in his own book. Perry is exactly how I remembered and imagined him to be. Compared to other characters in the Midnight Dynasty world, Perry is much more charming, playful, protective, possessive of those he cares for, and has a slight edge of danger to him. His interactions with Charlotte Lancaster, his future wife, is both hilarious and exciting because they like to argue with and taunt each other. This is an opposites attract and “enemies to lovers” romance with an arranged marriage between the two.

“He has a way of looking at me, talking to me, as if no one matters. His attention is always one hundred percent for me. And no one else.”

My favorite part about this book would have to be the push and pull between Perry and Charlotte. Despite not wanting to marry each other, their relationship naturally progressed throughout the book into something more. The attraction was immediate and sparks flew whenever they argued. Unlike Winston Constantine, the oldest brother in the family, Perry is more relaxed and whimsical while trying to find his place in the world. Meeting Charlotte shifted something inside of him—one where he feels responsible for her because she needed him and no one had before. I find his personality to be the perfect match to Charlotte's prickly, shy, and wary nature. There is no denying that these two have incredible chemistry and their scenes together, especially the one after their wedding rehearsal, was built up beautifully.

“This woman looks at me as if I could be her savior. She needs me. I want to be there for her. I want to be her knight in shining armor.”

In the end, I'm excited to read more of Charlotte and Perry in The Ruthless Groom because what we got in this book has the potential for a spectacular couple and scorching hot story. I can't even say I was surprised by that cliffhanger ending—only that I wanted more. Charlotte's past is coming back to haunt her and it has a shocking relation to the Constantine's mortal enemy, the Morelli's. Without knowing how Perry will react to this revelation, Charlotte is shocked, afraid, but also hopeful and adamant that he will save her. I have been waiting so long for Perry's book and I simply loved what Monica Murphy has written so far for him. Even though I was unsure about Charlotte at first, she grew on me and Perry. He became protective of her and I loved how he became her knight in shining armor without realizing or wanting to in the first place. I highly recommend this book to those who have been looking forward to Perry Constantine's book because you will not be disappointed in this opposites attract romance between him and his sweet, quick-tempered, and reserved heroine.

King of Spades by Alta Hensley

We first met Nick Hudson and Lyriope Bailey in Silver Bells, a short story featured in Meet Me Under the Mistletoe. King of Spades is their story and expands on their dark and dirty entanglement as Lyriope navigates the dangerous world of Bishop's Landing. Lyriope happens to be the illegitimate daughter of Bryant Morelli and this secret has made her an unwilling pawn in the running feud between the Constantine and Morelli families. As with most books, I like focusing on the romance and chemistry between the characters and the sexual tension between Lyriope and Nick was so palpable and electric that it had me wanting more. Much of the book was a huge tease because Nick was playing games with Lyriope. While I did find them titillating, I was also frustrated by it because of the subsequent sex scenes that we got. They were sexy and taboo but not something that I personally enjoy reading.

"Nothing about what I'll expect from you will be simple. Nothing about me or our situation is ordinary."

If you like your anti-heroes possessive, dirty, dark, dangerous, and a little bit crazy then Nick Hudson definitely has that in spades. I was certainly surprised by him and the lengths he would go to keep Lyriope. As for Lyriope, she was incredibly stubborn, prideful, and defiant. Her attraction to Nick forever changes her world as she is thrust into his deviant mind games with no way out. In many ways, Nick is the Mad Hatter and Lyriope is Alice in Wonderland. This is simply the beginning for these two and I can't wait to see how the story unfolds, especially because Lyriope's "contract" with Nick is still in play. Nick is dirty and unapologetic about his mind games and while Lyriope is innocent in many ways, there is no denying that she is his perfect match because these two burned up the pages.

"He's the villain. He's the monster in the story. He's not my knight in shining armor."

In the end, I enjoyed reading Lyriope and Nick's story and will be highly anticipating Queen of Hearts. The book ends with a cliffhanger and Lyriope is between crossroads—choosing to stay in the safety of Nick's arms or freedom. Although she is fiercely attracted to him, Lyriope is also independent and prefers solving her own problems. Fans of the Midnight Dynasty world will enjoy this surprising addition to the Morelli side of the family. Although Lyriope and Nick's story can be read separately and is a standalone series, I highly recommend reading Lucian's (The Monster and the Doll), Leo's (Beast of Bishop's Landing), and Tiernan's (Dangerous Temptation) books for additional context.

Last Resort by Amelia Wilde

Amelia Wilde concludes Daphne Morelli and Emerson LeBlanc's story in Last Resort and it has been an incredible, heartbreaking, and exhilarating journey from start to finish. Although many may find Emerson to be her most "controversial" hero, I thought he was Amelia’s most fascinating, unique, and broken. The love and obsession he had for Daphne was all-encompassing, dark, poetic, and even romantic. There is no denying that Daphne and Emerson are two sides of the same coin and that there is simply no Emerson without Daphne—they are each other's soulmates. Just like how Daphne is Emerson's most precious piece of art, he is her most beloved canvas. I also loved how the ocean was this omniscient character that symbolized and played a part in their relationship throughout the entire book. It was especially poignant considering that Daphne loved drawing the ocean and Emerson loved the ocean because it freed him from his past and anxiety.

"The ocean is how I found him… My work is the ocean. It will always be wrapped up in the ocean, just like my heart will always be wrapped up in him. Forever."

Following the events in Sweet Mercy, Daphne and Emerson are separated. Leo Morelli, Daphne's older brother, has brought her back to his home only for both of them to realize that Daphne has changed. Without Emerson in her life, Daphne feels lost and incomplete. The same can be said about Emerson who completely breaks down without her in his life. Thankfully, this separation did not lost long but the inevitable confrontation between Emerson and Leo was intense, heartbreaking, and dramatic. Nevertheless, it also provided a sense of finality as well. There were consequences to Emerson's actions and he was ready to say goodbye to Daphne. This act of selflessness, one where he was willing to let his hummingbird go and free herself from him, redeemed Emerson in my eyes despite the fact that I never faulted him for taking Daphne in the first place. It may have been difficult between them at first, but he was completely enamored with her and wanted to obtain her no matter what. However, this doesn't mean that all could be forgiven considering Emerson still has to face Daphne's family.

"My little painter. She is not art. Or—she is more than art. More than an obsession. She's everything. Breathing, living love."

In the end, I truly enjoyed Daphne and Emerson's story because it was so poetically beautiful and romantic in my eyes. While their story may be unconventional, the love, lust, and understanding that they had for each other was always prevalent throughout the trilogy. As for that controversial scene that everybody seems to fault Amelia Wilde for in Sweet Mercy, I do want to say that there was a reason behind it and the author does a spectacular job explaining it in this book. Besides trying to prove a point, Emerson was trying distance himself from Daphne only for it to backfire on him because he was already in love with her. Daphne and Emerson's romance was so much more than I thought it would be. I never expected it to turn out the way it did and I couldn't be more than happier about it. This trilogy has solidified my love for her writing because it had everything I wanted and more—angst, heartbreak, drama, and an obsessive love. Fans of Amelia Wilde's writing will absolutely love this trilogy as well as those who love reading about the broken and tortured hero who simply cannot live without his sweet and lovely heroine.

Binding Contract by Amelia Wilde

In Binding Contract, Mason Hill and Charlotte Van Kempt's intoxicating and heartbreaking love story has truly come full circle. So much has changed since their first meeting until now and the stakes are much higher than before. After that explosive cliffhanger and revelation in Hostile Takeover, Charlotte is reeling from her parents' betrayal. The world now knows about her twisted relationship with Mason and now is the time for damage control. I'm thankful that this part of the story was glossed over quickly because I was more interested in the emotional turmoil of our two main characters and their relationship with each other. They have both experience tremendous character growth since the beginning and the love that they have for each other brought tears to my eyes.

"Love was never part of our agreement. It wasn't anywhere in the contract."

The contrast between Mason's past and present self is extraordinary because he was initially painted as this villain at the start of the trilogy but meeting Charlotte allowed him to embrace his darker nature and the man he was always meant to be. I was initially unsure of him at first because he was so cruel to Charlotte but he undoubtedly redeems himself in this book. Similarly, Charlotte is no longer that naive and innocent girl in the beginning who merely wanted to save her family from ruin. The fact that she was willing to give up on her love for Mason so that he could move on from his revenge tells us all we need to know about her. I loved how kind, understanding, and compassionate she was to Mason and his siblings. Even though she was hurt and broken from her own parents' betrayal, she persevered and confronted them.

"You gave me everything, but I'm nothing without you. Nothing."

Amelia Wilde's latest book is only the beginning of the Hill saga because we'll be getting Gabriel and Elise's book next in Power Play. As the second oldest brother, Gabriel shares similarities with Mason but uses his charm and sex appeal to accumulate secrets instead. Just like his brother, he hides a darker nature behind that carefree and charming smile while seeking revenge for his family. With Mason finally letting go of his revenge against those who murdered his parents, Gabriel is the one pursuing it now and he has set his eyes on Elise because of her parents' role in the conspiracy. I thoroughly enjoyed this trilogy and I'm really looking forward to Jameson's book especially because he is one of those "Robin Hood" type of heroes who gets into all kinds of trouble. Remy is a sweetheart and is quite mischievous just like her brothers. Gabriel is the wild card because of his unassuming nature. I highly recommend this trilogy and book to those who love the revenge and forbidden romance trope with a broken and dirty talking hero who is highly possessive and desperately loves his sweet sunshine heroine.
