No matter how hot he is or how hot things are between us, however, there’s one rule in my life which I refuse to break: Never date a fireman.

Cover Reveal: When a Moth Loved a Bee by Pepper Winters

Pepper Winters has revealed the cover for When a Moth Loved a Bee!

Release date: TBA 2022

New York Times Bestseller, Pepper Winters, delivers a brand new passionately raw and romantically dangerous Dark Fantasy Romance.

Not all love stories begin with connection. Not all romances grow into affection.
And not all soulmates are destined to be together.

However, this is not that kind of story.
This story?
Stars, where do I begin?

I could tell you when I fell in love with her. I could tell you how we fought so hard to belong.
And I could tell you where it all went so horribly wrong.
But that would ruin our tale.

Instead, I'll just tell you that we are the reason the world wept and turned to ashes.

Darro is a Child of the Moon.
Captive on Vremya island, he was found instead of born. Gifted by the moon and imprisoned by prophecy, his masters wait to see if he is the one foreseen to destroy the world.

Runa is a Child of the Sun.

Delivered by an eclipse on the night of a full moon, she is everything the masters have feared. It is said that the fate of Simperium exists within her palm, and unless she is guided and protected, she will deliver death instead of life.

What a shame prophecy didn't warn them what would happen when a moth fell in love with a bee...

Blog Tour: Ten Trends to Seduce Your Bestfriend by Penny Reid

Ten Trends to Seduce Your Bestfriend, an all-new quirky and witty laugh out loud romance from New York Times bestselling author Penny Reid, is now live!

Winnifred Gobaldi and Byron Visser are not best friends.

Yes, they’ve known each other for years, but they’re not even friendly. Winnie considers them more like casual, distant acquaintances who find each other barely tolerable, especially when he's being condescending (which is all the time).

The truth is, they have nothing in common. She’s a public school science teacher with stars in her eyes, and he’s a pretentious, joyless double PhD turned world-famous bestselling fiction author. She loves sharing her passion for promulgating women in STEM careers and building community via social media, and he eschews all socialization, virtual or otherwise. She’s looking for a side hustle to help pay down a mountain of student debt, and his financial portfolio is the stuff of fiduciary wet dreams. So why are they faking a #bestfriend relationship for millions of online spectators?

When a simple case of tit-for-tat trends between nonfriends leads to a wholly unexpected kind of pretend, nothing is simple. Sometimes, it takes a public audience to reveal the truth of private feelings, and rarely—very rarely—you should believe what you see online.

Ten Trends to Seduce Your Bestfriend is a full-length, complete standalone, adult contemporary romantic comedy.

Excerpt

“This is the video from yesterday.” My stomach did a weird thing at the sight of him, and the sight of me crawling on all fours toward him, and what came after. I blinked away from the replay, before the part where I’d forgotten we were being filmed. “Why would I be mad at you about this? I knew you were filming.”

“Look harder.”

My forehead wrinkled, giving my attention back to her phone. I didn’t know what she wanted me to see, but now the video was repeating and—

“OH MY GOD!” I grabbed the phone. “This—this is—”
“Shh! Yes.” Now Amelia looked around, presumably to make certain none of the Seattleites surrounding us felt a disturbance in the politeness force. “Yes. I recorded it live. I’m so, so, so sorry.”

I leaned forward. “So that means it’s been—”

“Posted since last night. That’s right.” She covered her face again, groaning. “I’m so sorry.”
My eyes caught on the number of views, and I stood from the table, my chair scraping noisily on the linoleum. “ONE MILLION VIEWS?”

“Sorry!” she whispered loudly to someone at a nearby table. “We’ll just—we’re leaving.” Amelia grabbed my laptop and notebook and tilted her head toward the exit. “Time to go, and it was one point three the last time I checked. Now get your bag.”

Numbly, I lowered her phone and grabbed for my backpack and coat, fumbling with the strap. My fingers didn’t seem to work. She walked around the table and placed a hand on my back, helping to usher me out of the quiet area and waiting until we were standing in the hall to say, “I’m so sorry. It was an accident.”

“I can’t . . .” I couldn’t do anything. I couldn’t think, I couldn’t move, I couldn’t speak. One point three million views. What must Byron think? “Oh crap,” I whispered, my gaze swinging around the interior of the library, unable to settle. “What about Byron? Does he know? How is he going to feel about this?”

“I don’t know if he knows. I’ve been trying to call him all morning. He won’t pick up his phone, and I’m frankly a little scared to leave a voice mail. Since he’s not on social media, he might not know.” Stuffing my laptop and notebook into my backpack, Amelia put the strap on my shoulder and took her cell phone from where I still gripped it.

I immediately covered my face like I could hide from this. My cheeks were hot. As much time as I’d spent this morning coming to terms with Jeff’s decisions last night, I’d spent ZERO seconds thinking about my ridiculous reaction to Byron’s performance. I wouldn’t allow myself to think about it. What was the point? He’d been pretending, acting, playing a part, and—as per usual—I’d left the interaction feeling like a fool.

“We have to delete it,” I rasped, my mouth dry, my brain on fire. “Before he sees it and finds out, we have to delete it.”

“No! No. Don’t do that.” She pressed the phone to her chest.

“What? Why not?”

“Think for a second.” She pushed me toward the elevator. “If you delete it, it might become a whole thing. He’s a famous guy who millions of people are starving to know more about. He has no social media and suddenly he’s on TikTok with you? And this isn’t like your lab video from Friday, this is you two together, acting like you’re close friends crushing on each other. We need to call him—together—and tell him. But first we need him to answer his damn phone.” Amelia nodded at her own assertion while stabbing the elevator call button with her index finger.

“Call him? You want to call him together?” Oh God. I didn’t want to call him. I never wanted to talk to him again. “You don’t think he’ll want us to take it down ASAP? Like you said, millions of people want to know about him. Don’t you think he’ll view this as an invasion of privacy?”

“Maybe.”

“Maybe?” I flinched back. “I think you mean, most certainly yes.”

“No.” She pulled me by the arm into the elevator and pressed all the right buttons. “We should call him, leave a voice mail together where we tell him exactly what happened, and ask what he wants to do about it. If you take it down, it might create more difficulty for him than if you left it up and let it run its course.”

I covered my face again, leaning against the wall for support. “I can’t believe this is happening.”

“Hey, on the bright side, you have over ten thousand new followers. That’s . . . something.”
I groaned. I would’ve given up every single one of my new followers if it would’ve somehow undone the posting of that video. What a nightmare.

This Man by Jodi Ellen Malpas

This Man (This Man, #1)Jodi Ellen Malpas has written many books over the years but her THIS MAN series continues to be one of her most popular and memorable because I keep coming back to it. Ava O’Shea and Jesse Ward’s relationship was all-consuming, tumultuous, and even frustrating at times but it was also very addicting. Ava is a runner and Jesse can’t help but try to chase and control her. This dynamic of theirs contributes to their push and pull relationship. While I do find their romance to be incredibly passionate, it was also very toxic and to the point of their own destruction. We're given bits and pieces behind the enigma that is the "Lord of the Manor" but it was becoming obvious that he kept secrets from Ava—ones that might irrevocably ruin their relationship forever. I did find this rather strange but also endearing because he was afraid she wouldn't approve of his age, profession, and past deviant behavior.
"Everything is so much more bearable with you around."
There is no denying that Ava and Jesse have a lot of sexual chemistry with each other. From the moment they met, Jesse pursued her relentlessly and tried to "trample" over her life. It's a good thing that this is fictional/romance land because some of his actions would be psychotic in real life. Not only did he call her multiple times during work hours but he would stalk her in the name of protecting her. While part of me did understand his good intentions, I also found it really intense. Unfortunately, Ava herself simply let all of this go because she was blindsided by her lust and feelings for Jesse. I liked Ava but was also frustrated by her inability to say no to Jesse. He was trying to control her life and when she tried to fight back against him, Ava always succumbed to his sexual prowess. Nevertheless, I did appreciate her character and my heart broke when everything fell apart.
"I can't get close enough to you. The control is because I'm frightened to death that something will happen to you… that you'll be taken away from me. I've waited too long for you."
In the end, I actually enjoyed this re-read a lot more this time simply because I knew what was going to happen and still remembered parts of it. I'm certainly looking forward to reading Beneath This Man and will actually attempt to finish the series this time. Jodi Ellen Malpas is planning on releasing This Woman in November, which tells Jesse's side of the story and I'm really interested in diving into the mind of this complex and broken character. Even though Ava is finally aware of Jesse's secrets, she still doesn't know about what he did to her pills and I'm waiting for that moment to drop. If you love extremely possessive heroes who are passionated, devoted, and obsessed with their heroines, then look no further because Jesse Ward is your man.

Twisted Heartbreak by N. Isabelle Blanco

Twisted HeartbreakTwisted Heartbreak by N. Isabelle Blanco shocked and surprised me. I went in with a vague notion of the plot and came out with a heavy heart and curiosity about what was going to happen next. There is a lot to unpack when it comes to Andrew and Lexi's relationship. Their story is dark, action-packed, full of revenge, and incredibly erotic. I wish I understood why Andrew was so obsessed with Lexi but I can only chalk it up to lust and obsession—at least for now. The trauma that Lexi had to go through because of certain individuals is horrifying. Although she appears fine on the surface, Lexi is broken and running on fumes. However, I loved how she is still resilient, determined, vengeful, and vulnerable despite everything that happened. For the past seven years, she was hidden away and unspeakable things were done to her. All because of one single moment that irrevocably changed both hers and Andrew's life.
"A puppet of powerful men. A puppet of cruel fate. I learned to deal. To survive. To use everything to my advantage."
As the foil to Lexi's character, Andrew is rage and darkness personified. He is willing to do anything for Lexi—including murder. Following that terrible event seven years ago, Andrew has also changed for the worst with only the constant thought of finding Lexi again. Throughout the book, the story often shifts between the past and present. I appreciated this aspect because it brought to light what exactly happened between Andrew and Lexi as well as the main antagonists that caused such turmoil and pain for these two. I'm disgusted, appalled, and heartbroken over what happened. It's no wonder that Andrew and Lexi are hellbent on revenge and ruining the lives of those who caused them to walk down this path in the first place. Another thing I appreciated was the chemistry and sexual tension between Lexi and Andrew. The love/hate made for some excellent and emotional scenes.
"I'm so hungry for her. I want to consume her. I want her to fill the gaping hole she left in me."
In the end, I enjoyed this book and walked away from it with a heavy heart because of how dark it was. I don't typically read these types of books where the heroine goes through unspeakable tragedies and trauma but I still appreciate N. Isabelle Blanco for writing this type of story. I look forward to seeing how the story will end in Twisted Rage because the book ends in a shocking cliffhanger. Lexi and Andrew have unintentionally become accomplices for murder. There lies a special place in hell for people who engage in sexual acts without consent. If you love reading dark romance that focuses on revenge, intense and lustful moments between the main characters, and second chances, you won't be disappointed in this book!

The Reluctant Bride by Monica Murphy

The Reluctant BrideMonica Murphy certainly intrigued and captured my attention in The Reluctant Bride because she finally brings to life one of the characters that I had been highly anticipating to read in the Midnight Dynasty series: Perry Constantine. We first met him in Skyscraper Cinderella and I remember loving how fun, kind, and protective he was. I find it incredible that the author was able to use these character traits of his and expand on it in his own book. Perry is exactly how I remembered and imagined him to be. Compared to other characters in the Midnight Dynasty world, Perry is much more charming, playful, protective, possessive of those he cares for, and has a slight edge of danger to him. His interactions with Charlotte Lancaster, his future wife, is both hilarious and exciting because they like to argue with and taunt each other. This is an opposites attract and “enemies to lovers” romance with an arranged marriage between the two.
“He has a way of looking at me, talking to me, as if no one matters. His attention is always one hundred percent for me. And no one else.”
My favorite part about this book would have to be the push and pull between Perry and Charlotte. Despite not wanting to marry each other, their relationship naturally progressed throughout the book into something more. The attraction was immediate and sparks flew whenever they argued. Unlike Winston Constantine, the oldest brother in the family, Perry is more relaxed and whimsical while trying to find his place in the world. Meeting Charlotte shifted something inside of him—one where he feels responsible for her because she needed him and no one had before. I find his personality to be the perfect match to Charlotte's prickly, shy, and wary nature. There is no denying that these two have incredible chemistry and their scenes together, especially the one after their wedding rehearsal, was built up beautifully.
“This woman looks at me as if I could be her savior. She needs me. I want to be there for her. I want to be her knight in shining armor.”
In the end, I'm excited to read more of Charlotte and Perry in The Ruthless Groom because what we got in this book has the potential for a spectacular couple and scorching hot story. I can't even say I was surprised by that cliffhanger ending—only that I wanted more. Charlotte's past is coming back to haunt her and it has a shocking relation to the Constantine's mortal enemy, the Morelli's. Without knowing how Perry will react to this revelation, Charlotte is shocked, afraid, but also hopeful and adamant that he will save her. I have been waiting so long for Perry's book and I simply loved what Monica Murphy has written so far for him. Even though I was unsure about Charlotte at first, she grew on me and Perry. He became protective of her and I loved how he became her knight in shining armor without realizing or wanting to in the first place. I highly recommend this book to those who have been looking forward to Perry Constantine's book because you will not be disappointed in this opposites attract romance between him and his sweet, quick-tempered, and reserved heroine.

Excerpt

“Tell me more about you, Marjorie Dunn.”

“I like it here in Eben Cape.” She watches me carefully as she says this. Worried I might reject this idea, maybe. But hell. It’s nice here. It could be a home. “I tried to make a life that my parents would have been proud of. They probably never imagined I’d own an inn, but they’d like it here, I think. They’d think it was peaceful. They’d understand wanting to live in a small town. It’s beautiful, even in the winter. It’s calm. No monsters lurking in the shadows, except…”

“Except?”

Her brow furrows. “No place is perfect. I’ve met some men here who made life difficult. My friend Emily’s husband was one of those. He’s gone now.”
“Because of you?”

She snorts. “No. He got into an argument with her brother, and he was killed. It was the talk of the town last year. Made me nervous to think about people killing each other. I didn’t like that. I was relieved when things quieted down. Relieved for Emily, especially.” Marjorie finds another one of my scars and focuses on it. “Do the scars still bother you?”

“No.” It’s tough to get closer to her, but I manage another inch. “That’s the thing about scars. They grow over with tissue that doesn’t have nerve endings. They don’t feel any pain. They’re basically dead.”
“It is a little like death,” she agrees. “But you’re still alive.”

“The scars will be with me forever. Same with the hidden ones. Those wounds are covered in the same scar tissue. I don’t feel anything.”

That’s what I’ve told myself for years. It’s bullshit. I feel things looking into Marjorie’s eyes. It’s bullshit for her, too. Her wounds are there in her heart. She’s built this inn as a guard for them, and she’s been doing a damn good job.

“I wish I felt less sometimes. You know…” Another thoughtful sigh. “I’ve made a home here, but it’s not the same. Nobody ever stays for long. Maybe that’s just how life is.”

The promise is on my lips. I won’t leave.
But of course I will.
That’s the job.
That’s my life.

It’s not going to happen this minute, though. Not in the next hour. Not even today. Fuck it. I’m staying with her at least for today. I let myself indulge in the fantasy. I normally don’t do that. Imagination can keep you alive through a dark night, but this isn’t about imagination. It’s about being in this moment.
I fold my arms around the beautiful innkeeper in my bed. “Tell me more.”

Ten Trends to Seduce Your Bestfriend by Penny Reid

Ten Trends to Seduce Your BestfriendPenny Reid continues to capture my heart with her charming, witty, and heartfelt writing in Ten Trends to Seduce Your Bestfriend. I cried and swooned over Winnie and Byron's relationship because it was simply perfect even though there were a few frustrations along the way. They were not 'perfect' people and had their own shortcomings—however, they felt real and true. Not only was Winnie such a relatable character because of her reluctance in burdening others and insecurities about love but even Byron left a deep impression on me because of his honesty, passion, and devotion for his one and only. I was incredibly invested in their friendship and subsequent relationship because it felt so natural for them to be more. Winnie was such a sunshine character who never wanted to burden others with her problems, always at the expense of herself. She was stubborn, independent, and deeply cared for other people. Byron, on the other hand, was broody, solemn, and quiet. He hated interacting with others and preferred to be left alone most of the time. Byron's decision to help Winnie will finally open the doors to their future together and the realization that they were always meant for each other.
"You are the sweetest torture I've ever known. And you… will never feel one tenth for me what I feel for you. And that, also, is perfect."
This truly was a best friends to lovers and opposites attract book because Winnie and Byron had been tip-toeing around each other for years until they were forced to interact with each other. My favorite part about this book would have to be the slow-burn and developing relationship between Winnie and Byron. They went from being acquaintances to friends and eventually lovers. Even though they frustrated me at times because of their misunderstandings, especially since Winnie didn't think she was capable of being loved, Byron was always willing to devote himself to her. There were many poignant moments in this book, one in which left me with tears in my eyes because Byron was trying so hard to improve himself for Winnie but she was still afraid to fall for him. The honesty and open communication between these two was so refreshing and sweet. I loved how they acknowledged their own mistakes and were willing to improve for the better because a strong relationship is all about give and take. What I also loved about this book was how surprisingly spicy it was. I was shocked by Byron's all-consuming desire and love for Winnie. It took them forever to take it to the next stage but every instance between them burned up the pages because of their intense chemistry.
"This was what desire felt like—the pain, longing, frustration, the torture. I used to hate this feeling, but now I loved it, I wanted it, just as I loved and wanted him."
In the end, I loved this book and the message it left behind for readers—love was about being patient and accepting; it was about loving yourself and depending on others; and ultimately, it was about being not afraid to step outside of your comfort zone and into the unknown. Byron and Willie's relationship was everything I wanted and it has been such an unforgettable experience. Fans of Penny Reid will adore this book with its charming and funny characters. I even loved the side characters, especially Amelia who was Winnie's best friend and Byron's oldest friend. If you love the slow-burn romance, best friends to lovers, unrequited love, and opposites attract tropes, then there is no denying that this book would be for you because I can't highly recommend this book enough.
