Aeromancist, The Beginning by Charmaine Pauls

Aeromancist, The Beginning (7 Forbidden Arts, #2, SECOND EDITION)Charmaine Pauls has quickly become one of my favorite authors. Her writing is simply magical, haunting, and tugged at my heartstrings. I loved reading Aeromancist, The Beginning, which is the prequel to Lann and Katherine's story. It was unexpected, sexy, romantic, and heartbreaking. I can't wait to read their actual book. I loved that the focus was on the romance instead of the paranormal bits. I remember reading Joss and Clelia's book and meeting Lann there. He was quiet, solemn, and very different from what I initially thought of him. In this installment, he came across as more worldly, angsty, and possessive. It was unexpected and I really liked that. I can't wait to know more about his past.
"He had no right to do this. He had no business going back and interfering in her life. He'd just make sure she was all right, and then he'd back off."
Of course, I can't mention Lann without Katherine. I would wager and say that she is his soulmate. It broke my heart when Katherine realized that she had fallen in love with Lann. Their one month contract relationship wasn't supposed to last beyond that. She kept hoping and hoping that Lann was going to change his mind... but he didn't and left. Katherine is one of those characters who you can't help but adore. She is incredibly kind, sweet, and lovable. It's no wonder that Lann is obsessed and possessive of her.
"He kissed her like it was there last time together, and then he took her so gently she would’ve sworn it meant something to him if she hadn’t known better."

"She didn’t want anything that would remind her of him. It was easier like that."
In the end, I really enjoyed this prequel and I'm so tempted to read the older version of their story. Charmaine is updating/revising this series and adding potentially new content to them. I might just read both versions at this point because I'm dying to know what happens between Lann and Katherine next. It's a no brainer that they're going to end up together but the angst in their relationship is what makes me so excited to read the next book. Anyway, I think this series is definitely worth checking out and I highly recommend it to those who like dark romance with a tiny dash of paranormal. Charmaine's writing is exceptional as always and will most definitely break your heart.
