Geomancist by Charmaine Pauls

Geomancist (7 Forbidden Arts #5)Even though Geomancist wasn't my favorite 7 Forbidden Arts book, I still enjoyed Asia and Sean's story very much. Their relationship was part enemies to lovers and mostly revolved around finding love in the midst of an extremely dangerous situation. As always, Charmaine Pauls excels at writing the tense atmosphere in her stories and chemistry of her characters. Asia and Sean had a difficult relationship at first because of their rivalry but it developed into something so much more than they could ever realize. They were both seeking the same thing and would go through any lengths to achieve it. I loved this aspect of the book. Past characters from the series also made an appearance and I can honestly say that Cain's manipulative nature was off-putting because he forced both Asia and Sean's hands. I hope that he will be able to redeem himself later in the series.
"If you let me have you, I'm never going to let you go. If you stay, it's forever."
I thought the book did a fantastic job introducing its main characters, Sean and Asia. With each chapter, we learn more and more about their secrets, motivations, struggles, and attraction for one another. One hides a secret that cost him everything while the other is struggling to support and keep her family together. With this setup in mind, Cain's manipulation further intensifies their situation by putting both Sean and Asia in front of one of Godfrey's acquaintances, a drug lord by the name of Juan Hernandez who is immediately attracted by Asia and wants her. Sean, who is already intensely attracted to Asia, gets incredibly jealous and tries to do everything in his power to prevent that from happening. If you like your male leads possessive and over the top jealous when it comes to his woman, Sean Rivers has got it.
"Loving him was like a law of nature, a law that could never be broken."
In the end, I highly recommend this book and series to those who like paranormal romance and erotic romance. This book was incredibly spicy, if you know what I mean, and the heat factor is high when it comes to Sean and Asia's romance. Fans of Charmaine Paul will of course enjoy this series because it features many of the attributes we know and love from her writing and style. Sean Rivers was highly driven, intense, and moody whereas Asia was a spark of sunshine in his life. I loved how she was equally driven to provide for her family and her attraction to Sean, despite her hesitation, was also all-consuming for her. This made for a somewhat angsty romance between the two. If you like the enemies-to-lovers trope, you will absolutely love this book because it was intense, action-packed, highly erotic, and entertaining.

Best Kept Secret by Skye Warren

Best Kept Secret (Rochester Trilogy #3)Best Kept Secret by Skye Warren is the emotional conclusion to the Rochester trilogy and it was heartbreaking, angsty, and shocking. I've really enjoyed my time with this series and how the author took inspiration from Jane Eyre and made it her own. A lot of the mysteries and secrets were finally revealed and I was shocked albeit also comforted to know the truth, to say the least. Beau and Jane's relationship is seemingly broken but the love, pining, and tension between them is always present throughout the story. The book immediately picks up right after the events of Strict Confidence, which was a cliffhanger ending that left many readers floored. Someone we thought dead was alive all this time. In his haste to protect her, Beau pushed Jane away and into the hands of a potentially dangerous individual. However, not all are what they seem.
"Maybe all of us are broken in our on ways. Maybe we're all running from the demons in our past."
As always, Skye Warren excels at capturing the mood and atmosphere of the book as well as the tension between her characters. The unsaid words, longing, and frustration between Jane and Beau was palpable and made for some excellent angst. I wanted to shake these two because they clearly loved each other but refuse to acknowledge it. Jane is self-deprecating and believes herself unworthy of love and care because of her past as an orphan whereas Beau is traumatized by love and the past betrayal from Rhys and Emily Rochester. Both felt undeserving of love and happiness, which broke my heart. On the flip side, we also got to witness another potential romance between two unexpected characters. They have a past but it's far too early to tell if they will be good for each other or not.
"My love was dangerous for so long. To me. To everyone else. I never thought I'd feel this kind of obsessive love again, but it's here."
In the end, I thoroughly enjoyed this billionaire and nanny romance with a hint/inspiration of Jane Eyre. Beau and Jane had incredible chemistry with each other and the love scenes were highly charged and erotic. I only wish their story was longer because I will miss these two and Paige dearly. As a whole, this series was another very solid read by Skye Warren even though I wouldn't exactly categorize this as a "dark romance." Beau and Jane had some kinks but it wasn't the main focus of their romance. I loved how Beau was gruff and inexperienced when it came to expressing his emotions and feelings. However, once he realizes his love for Jane, he is the type of person who will never let her go. Fans of Skye Warren will absolutely love this series and those who have been reading the Rochester trilogy will be satisfied with the final chapter of Beau and Jane's story.

Meet Me Under the Mistletoe by Collected Authors

Meet Me Under the MistletoeHallelujah by Skye Warren

Skye, you have my attention. I am so excited to read more of Finn Hughes and Eva Morelli's story in the future. Since Leo and Daphne are now preoccupied with their own love lives, it's finally her turn. With this delicious preview, I can sense that there is more to Finn and Eva than meets the eye. Eva has always been known to be the reliable/dependable older sister with a dark secret. She will do anything to keep it. Finn is new to me but I can definitely see the sparks between him and Eva. Finn comes across as someone who may seem flippant at first but he is quite charming and serious about his intentions regarding Eva. There is a darkness to him that we have yet to scratch the surface to. I'm certainly looking forward to more from these two.

O Come All Ye Faithful by Amelia Wilde

This was such a cute and sexy novella that provides us with a brief glimpse into the lives of Haley and Leo as a couple after the events of Fallen Rose. For those who have read the trilogy, these two have gone through so many trials and tribulations to be together. This is what happens after "The End" and I'm happy to say that not much has changed for these two. They're still so deeply in love with each other and their passions still run high. We also get a brief glimpse of what was going on with Daphne and her "Collector." I was pleasantly surprised to realize that the timeline of this story was happening concurrently with Dark Reign.

O Holy Night by Pam Godwin

This takes place after the events of Lessons in Sin and I'm happy to report that Tinsley Constantine is still adorable, bratty, snarky, and loveable as always. Tinsley and Magnus' story was one of my favorite reads this year and this novella did not disappoint. I love this couple so much. They're so completely obsessed and possessive of each other. Magnus is sexy as hell and has a mean streak but Tinsley will always be his exception. This short story was everything I wanted and more. I'm so happy to read what happened after their happily ever after ending.

It Came Upon A Midnight Clear by Jenika Snow

You might want a cup a water nearby because Galina and Arlo's story was short but extremely hot and sexy. I was shocked by how explicit it got but this short story certainly made me more intrigued about them as a couple and now I'm curious to know how they met. There really wasn't anything unique about the story because it features the typical alpha Russian hero who is extremely obsessed and possessive of his heroine but I do have to admit that the smut was excellent lol. I'm not new to Jenika Snow and she really knows how to write explicit love scenes that will leave you hot and bothered.

Midnight Days by Anna Zaires and Charmaine Pauls

Midnight Days (White Nights, #2)Midnight Days is the stunning conclusion to the White Nights duet series by Anna Zaires and Charmaine Pauls. As always, these two authors continue to captivate me with their writing, characters, and steamy love scenes. Katherine and Alex's story was angsty, frustrating at times, sexy as sin, and action-packed. This book was much "darker" in comparison to White Nights because Alex's obsession and desire to possess his Katerina is magnified and much more intense. The story takes place immediately after the events of the first book and it broke my heart to see how confused and betrayed Kate felt over Alex's actions. Kate is extremely independent and self-reliant so it was interesting to see how she dealt with her loss of freedom. On the flip side, we also get to see Alex's own confusion, frustration, determination and his need to protect Kate at all costs—even if she might hate him for clipping her wings.
“I want to bury myself so deep inside her that there will be no question as to whom she belongs.”
I loved the push and pull between Kate and Alex, even when it also frustrated me because I wanted them to communicate with each other better. Alex's actions in the first book had consequences and it left Kate feeling lost and powerless. There is no denying that there was a significant shift in the power dynamic of their relationship and Alex now had all of the control. He was extremely overprotective of Kate because she was his weakness and love of his life. I understood where they were both coming from because both of their lives were in danger and he was taking extreme measures for their safety. Although I wasn't as invested in the "action" or revenge part of the book, I was still surprised by the outcome because it freed Alex from his past. Kate also made some mistakes that almost cost them everything but her decision to forgive and love Alex also freed her as well.
“You make me forget where I am… You have that effect on me. Always have, since the first night.”
In the end, the White Night duet series was everything I wanted and more. I loved reading Alex and Kate's rollercoaster of a love story and was sad to see it end. Alex and Kate shared similar characteristics to some of my past favorite characters from Anna Zaires and Charmaine Pauls. I could see a little bit of Nikolai Molotv from Devil’s Lair and Maxime from Diamonds in the Dust in Alex Volkov. Kate Morrell also reminded me of Chloe Emmons, who is Nikolai's lady love, and Cassandra Joubert from Stolen Lust. There was a scene in the end that brought tears to my eyes because Alex finally showed Kate his white nights or midnight days. Alex fell in love with Kate because of her dedication and need to protect and save others—she was his angel. Fans of Anna Zaires and Charmaine Pauls will absolutely love this series, especially if you like reading about heroes who are extremely possessive and obsessive over their heroines and the opposites attract trope.

Dark Reign by Amelia Wilde

Dark ReignAmelia Wilde continues to captivate me with her writing style, world building, steamy romance, and interesting characters in Dark Reign. I was completed invested in Emerson LeBlanc and Daphne Morelli's twisted relationship. It also intertwines with Leo and Haley's own story, specifically Hidden Beauty. Although I felt a lot of time was spent going over Leo and Haley's tumultuous relationship with Daphne worrying on the side, the slow burn and unfolding romance between Emerson and Daphne also had me on the edge of my seat because he was exhibiting some extremely obsessive, possessive, and stalker-like behavior. Strangely, most of Emerson's internal dialogue felt romantic in a way because of how much power Daphne and her art had over him. He was slowly unraveling and losing control over his feelings for her, which I found quite fascinating.
"It won't be enough, nothing will be enough, until I have her."
Daphne might be my second favorite Amelia Wilde heroine because of her contrasting nature—she was both light and dark. Considering how overprotective Leo was, Daphne's internal struggles predominantly revolved around her independence as well as gaining financial and personal freedom from her family. Unfortunately, she might have left one cage for another. I was completely shocked by Emerson's character because he smashed my rose-colored glasses with regards to his feelings for Daphne. His obsession over her is complicated and multi-layered. He has his secrets and there is certainly more to Emerson than meets the eye. There's also no denying that Daphne and Emerson's chemistry was dark, palpable, sensual, and erotic. The tension was thick with every encounter. One of my favorite scenes with them was near the end and I don't think I can get over it because of how sexy, dirty, and shocking it was.
"No one has ever watched me with an intensity like this before. Like every breath I take is a monumental change."
In the end, I'm delighted to say that I thoroughly enjoyed this book and I can't wait for Sweet Mercy. Daphne and Emerson's story does end with a surprising cliffhanger that had me screaming for more. As you can tell, I'm really excited to read what Emerson has in store for Daphne and what she will do to fight back. Will their relationship break or evolve? If you love your heroes possessive, obsessive, jealous, and slightly sociopathic, then you will absolutely love Emerson LeBlanc. He will go through any lengths to obtain and acquire Daphne, no matter how wrong it may be. Fans of dark romance and Amelia Wilde will be thrilled over this book, especially if you love the handsome and morally ambiguous billionaire stalker who will steal his heroine because he simply cannot live without her trope.
