Bitter Truths by Dani René

Bitter Truths is the second book in the Crimson Falls Duet series by Dani René and it immediately picks up right after the events in Bitter Vows. Lycan is gravely injured and Scarlett is kidnapped by his brother, Darius. A lot of uncomfortable truths are revealed in this book but one thing does stay the same—Lycan and Scarlett's love and desire for each other. I loved how Lycan was willing to do anything for his Scarlett, including giving her the opportunity to explore her sexual desires, even when it caused him jealousy.

"I didn't think she'd come to mean so much to me. I didn't expect my feelings for her to take a front seat to my own life."

Lycan has fallen in love with Scarlett and will stop at nothing to get her back. I have to admit that I did not expect to be reading Darius' POV in the part of the book. I despised him for injuring Lycan and taking Scarlett away. There's also that fact that he had sexual thoughts about his brother's wife. However, my opinion of him has changed by the end of this book and I commend Dani René for being able to do that! Darius is a very complex character and engages in activities that are much darker than Lycan. I look forward to reading his HEA down the road.

In the end, this was an excellent duet series by Dani René and I am definitely looking forward to more from her in the future! She excels at writing sexy stories with dirty talking heroes and this one is no exception. Besides Darius, I am really intrigued by Kahn, Alex, and Atreo. I hope we will be getting books for them. If you are looking for a dark romance that is action-packed, off-the-charts smoking hot love scenes, and an obsessive love between two characters, then I highly recommend this book!

The Wild Mustang & The Dancing Fairy by Saffron A. Kent

Saffron A. Kent's The Wild Mustang & The Dancing Fairy is the prequel to A Gorgeous Villain featuring Callie Thorne and Reed Jackson. I enjoyed meeting the Thorne brothers and I hope that there will be more books for these characters down the road. In this novella, we're introduced to Conrad, Stellan, Shepard, and Ledger. In addition to the brothers, we're also introduced to Tempest Jackson—Reed's younger sister—who Callie considers her best friend. Callie and Reed's relationship was sweet and heartbreaking at the same time.

"But the way his eyes melt at the sight of me makes me think that I’m the most beautiful girl he’s ever seen."

Up until now, we've known that Reed betrayed her in some way and she retaliated by driving his beloved car into a lake. What I didn't expect were the events leading up to this ultimate "betrayal" and heartbreak. I find Reed, also known as Roman by Callie, to be an enigma. I don't know what to make of it. He's kind of like a shapeshifter and completely destructive when it comes to anything that has to do with feelings and love. That's why he was able to break Callie's heart so thoroughly. Since the very beginning, he's made it clear that winning was everything to him—even at the cost of Callie's love.

"But the truth is that no one can save me. I’m already dying. I’ve already fallen in love with a villain."

In the end, this was an excellent prequel/prologue to Callie and Reed's story. I've been wanting to read their book ever since they were introduced in My Darling Arrow. I'm not sure if Reed is even redeemable, especially after how he callously broke her heart. I don't know what to believe anymore because he was sweet and kind to her in the beginning... but was that all a lie? I don't believe all of it was. Callie, being the sweet girl she was, tried so hard to understand him. She saw him but he broke her heart. Anyway, I absolutely can't wait to read A Gorgeous Villain. If you love angsty, heartbreaking, and forbidden stories, Saffron Kent writes the best ones and this one is no exception.

A Lair So Sinful by Zoey Ellis

A Lair So Sinful was my first book by Zoey Ellis and it certainly won't be my last. I enjoyed I'mya and Nyro's story so much. What happens when you combine dark romance with fantasy? You get the omegaverse. If you love stories featuring a possessive and dirty talking hero who is obsessed with his heroine, you'll get that here. Did I mention that he has a dragon? I found the world completely fascinating and I can't wait to read more about it. It has magic, intrigue, betrayal, and sex.

At first, I wasn't sure where the story was going because we are learning and experiencing everything for the first time, just like I'mya. The story starts off with her awakening in a cavern completely naked. She finds out that she is part of a group of women meant to satisfy the needs of the dragonair. I'mya has lost her memories and wants to escape her predicament. What she doesn't realize is that she is exactly where she's supposed to be. Her attempt at escaping leads her to her first encounter with the master of the lair, Nyro, and his dragon.

"Sliding his large hand to the back of her neck, he lowered his head to scent her, running his nose from her collarbone, along her neck, stopping just behind her ear."

I actually adore their relationship. I love how I'mya isn't afraid to talk back to Nyro and even calls him a coward for "torturing" her with magic. I found their courtship to be sexy, funny at times, and swoon-worthy. The nose touch and cuddles! There is a language barrier at first because Nyro considers his own much superior but I'mya is able to understand him whenever he uses magic. At the heart of this book, there is a twist in the plot that I didn't expect and we uncover it as I'mya starts to remember her memories and past life.

"Your scent has been torturing me since the moment I met you, and your beauty is uniquely agonizing."

In the end, I really enjoyed this book and look forward to reading more from Zoey Ellis. Nyro is one of five brothers and Tyomar is next. I'm really excited to read Zendyor's book because he is most likely fated to be with Elora, I'mya's friend. She was the woman who accidentally trespassed into his territory before arriving at Nyro's. Anyway, if you love your stories a little bit dark, erotic, romantic, and magical, don't miss out on this book!
