One Chance by Dani Wyatt

ONE CHANCE (Meant to Be #2)Dani Wyatt continues the Meant To Be series by focusing on Sophia—Tor and Cyrus' spitfire of a sister who happens to be a workaholic chef. This book can be read as a standalone but I recommend reading Tor and Natalie's book, Two Wrongs, because their relationship was referenced and I also loved that one. Sophia and Chance's story was similarly hot and dirty, which I really enjoyed as well. Their chemistry was immediate and it certainly had that signature love/lust at first sight between the two that Dani Wyatt usually writes in her books. Chance took one look at Sophia and knew that she was it for him.
"I think I've found the bad boy to make all my dirty dreams come true."
The story begins with Tor and Natalie taking Sophia to the airport for her yearly and desperately needed vacation trip. Despite her apprehension due to her workaholic nature, Sophia ends up going to this trip and ends up meeting Chance there. If I were to describe her personality, Sophia is witty, snarky, confident, defiant, and trusting. Chance was an interesting character and I had a difficult time understanding him at first because of his actions. However, there is no denying the fact that he fell hard for Sophia and wanted to keep her no matter what. Chance was mysterious, dominant, possessive, and obsessive. He wanted Sophia and did whatever it took to keep her.
"She's all the dreams I never dared to dream. All the hopes I never dared to hope."
As always, Dani Wyatt writes some of the steamiest and erotic scenes—these two burned up the pages with their first time together! I thought it was super hilarious that Tor and Cyrus were super overprotective of Sophia that she had to yell at them for almost ruining everything for her. I absolutely can't wait to read Cyrus' book—the "darker" brother and "black sheep" of the family. If you're looking for a quick and smutty summer read, you won't be disappointed with Sophia and Chance's story!

EXCERPT

The women’s reply is lost on me as I step outside and close the door. All I can focus on is the blue Aston Martin that comes to a stop behind the truck. I stand rooted to the spot, watching Leon with growing dread as he gets out of the car and makes his way over with long but unhurried strides.

He’s wearing dark jeans, a faded T-shirt, and a leather jacket—his signature work attire. Only, he’s not at the office where Elliot must be moving his precious Johannesburg Country Club mug and coaster to his new desk. He’s here, pinning me with a stare cold enough to freeze the sun. It’s a violent kind of cold, the kind that only dangerous men possess. They don’t make threats or raise their voices. They pull the trigger calmly and quietly. They’re efficiently deadly.

He stops two steps away from me, measuring me with that cool gaze. “Violet.”
I swallow around the lump in my throat. “Leon.”
“The moving company employee said there’s a confusion.”

Lifting my chin, I try to look confident instead of scared. “Yes.” I wave a hand at the truck. “What’s the meaning of this?”
He looks over his shoulder at the vehicle, studying it for a second before turning back to me. “You’re moving in with me.” His words are flat, toneless. “We’re getting married.”
The word pops out of its own accord. “No.”
He raises a brow, an unfriendly smile playing on his sensual lips. “No?”
My mouth is so dry it feels as if my lips are glued together. I have to wet them before I can speak. “That’s what I said.”

He advances on me, closing the small distance between us and putting our bodies flush together. “Once again, you’re mistakenly assuming I’m asking.”
I back up, my heel hitting the step behind me. “Gus won’t force me.”
His smile turns mocking. “Because I’m not his new partner after all?”
Not sure how to answer that without provoking his anger, I remain quiet.
He cups my head, his fingers gentle on my scalp while his gaze bores into mine. What I see in his eyes makes me shudder. In contrast to his light touch, he looks at me like he wants to crack me open and break me apart.

“Here’s the thing you don’t understand, Violet. It doesn’t really matter what Gus says. Tonight, you’ll be sleeping in my bed. Tomorrow, you’ll wake up in my bed. And the next day, and the next.”
A shiver runs through me.
He searches my eyes, but he’s not looking for emotions. He’s not interested in my feelings. He’s evaluating them like an artist studying a subject to assess the color. “Tomorrow, my darling, you will say I do.”

Power Play by Amelia Wilde

Power PlayLove and revenge play a powerful role in the story of Gabriel Hill and Elise Bettencourt as they seek to destroy the consortium that Mason Hill was chasing in the Wealth trilogy. This is a continuation of that story and Amelia Wilde has crafted two fascinating and dimensional characters in Gabriel and Elise. I always thought there was a certain darkness to Gabriel's character but what I never expected was the conflict in him. Elise had her own burdens and secrets to bare—only to find out too late that she was merely a victim/pawn in her father's evil machinations. Power Play was much more than I bargained for because intertwined with the fleeting moments of passion and sweetness between Gabriel and Elise, their romance was always overshadowed by angst, cruelty, and heartbreak.
"This has never been about falling in love. Not for Gabriel, and certainly not for me."
As the second oldest sibling in the Hill family, Gabriel uses his charm and sex appeal to accumulate secrets. Behind that distant but charming smile lies a burning fire—fueled by self-hatred and a desire for revenge, that yearns to destroy those who murdered his parents. If I were to describe Gabriel Hill, he would be ruthless, calculating, cold, and broken. As the foil to Gabriel's character, Elise has been running away from her guilt and past for many years. After emancipating herself from her family at the age of eighteen, Elise has been living her life simply and independently as the baker and owner of her bakery shop. I loved how sweet, kind, caring, and hopeful she was despite all the suffering and pain she experienced at the hands of her own family and even by Gabriel. Elise is the type of heroine who loves with all of her heart.
"Nobody will ever hate me as much as I hate myself. She thinks it was her, but it was me. I'm the one who destroyed everything."
In the end, I enjoyed Gabriel and Elise's story even though it left me with tears and a heavy heart because of the way it ended. However, this is merely the beginning to their story and it will continue in Upper Hand. At first, I had a difficult time connecting with Gabriel because he was an incredibly complex and contradicting character. In addition to having a distorted view on love and pleasure, he punished himself for surviving and not doing enough. The persona he portrayed to the world and his family were merely extensions of himself and separated from his real self. Whether Elise will be able to save his heart remains to be a question. Fans of Amelia Wilde will not want to miss out on this continuation of the Hill family saga as Gabriel Hill seeks to destroy himself and those who played a part in his parents' murder. I recommend this to those that love angst and the revenge romance trope with a self-destructing and broken hero who does everything in his power to push away his sweet little baker.

Two Wrongs by Dani Wyatt

TWO WRONGS (Meant To Be #1)Two Wrongs is Dani Wyatt's latest book and the first in a brand new series called Meant To Be and it certainly has me excited to read more. I was completely charmed by Natalie and Tor's whirlwind of a romance because it had all the makings that I loved most about this author's writing—an over-the-top obsessive hero who simply can't live without his sassy and adorable heroine. This is classic Dani Wyatt at her best with a whole lot of spice and dirty talk. What made the book special to me was the sexy and developing relationship between Tor and Natalie as it went from 0 to 180. It made me want more. I was completely taken and tickled by Tor's bossy attitude and how quickly he changed his mind from wanting nothing to do with romance and relationships to being in love at first sight with Natalie.
"I have been insane from the moment I set eyes on you."
Tor is a divorce attorney with major anger issues. In addition, his family has set him up with a woman and he is not pleased. As he goes on this unnecessary date, he comes face to face with Natalie and this throws his life into upheaval. On the other hand, Natalie is an adorable and clumsy young woman who has been on many terrible dates. While searching for her missing wallet, she meets the eyes of none other than Tor and this ultimately sealed her fate. Tor ends up "saving" Natalie from her awful date and what ensues is an incredibly sexy but hilarious courtship between the two as he claims her. There is no denying the fact that Natalie and Tor had incredible chemistry with each other. She was sassy and had no qualms talking back to him, which only made him want her more.
"He's every fantasy I never realized I had and I want to make them all come true with him."
In the end, this was a fantastic introduction to a new series and I absolutely can't wait to read more. Tor's tough and feisty sister, Sophia, is up next and it looks like she will have her hands full with an obsessive and rough security officer during her getaway vacation. If you're looking for something super quick, smutty, full of sugary sweetness, and a whole lot of dirty talk, you won't be disappointed with Natalie and Tor's story.

Hey, Mister Marshall by Saffron A. Kent

Hey, Mister Marshall (St. Mary's Rebels Book 4)There is a fine line between hate and love—and in many ways, Poe's relationship with Alaric encapsulates that to perfection. Hey, Mister Marshall is the final book in the St. Mary's Rebels series and I was so emotionally invested because there was so much history and and feelings between Poe and Alaric. These two burned up the pages with their sexual chemistry and tension in every scene. Despite their guardian/ward relationship, every single moment was charged with want, need, desire, aggression, and even heartbreak. Alaric may be the devil but Poe will always be his harpy and troublemaker—it has been this way since the beginning. Poe and Alaric's relationship had everything I loved about this author's writing: a slow-burn and age-gap romance between an intense and dirty talking guardian and his confident but fragile ward who simply wants to love and be loved in return.
"Nothing could be better than being loved. By him. By the man I love. My guardian. My soulmate. My Alaric."
If I were to sum up Poe and Alaric in a few words, their relationship would be considered a complex and passionate love. They had a lot more similarities than differences due to their upbringing and lack of parental love. Even though Alaric was considered Poe's enemy, there was always a part of her that craved his attention and wanted him to notice her. The same can be said for Alaric, who could not stop thinking about Poe and even feel guilt for trapping and controlling her. Despite all the lies and unsaid words between them, they were perfectly matched for each other. Just like how Poe had two sides to her, one where she is confident but unsure of herself, Alaric is intense and serious but also possessive and caring. What Poe and Alaric never realized was that they cared more for each other than they wanted to admit. One of my favorite scenes was when Poe told Alaric about what she did to gain his trust. It was hilarious and super hot because Alaric was close to breaking and losing control.
"She's the beat of my heart and the air in my lungs. My wildcat, my troublemaker. My siren and doe-eyed diva. My Poe."
In the end, I loved that Poe ruined Alaric’s life—just like she said she would because in doing so, they both found a love that was all-encompassing, real, and worth fighting for. Alaric had so much anger and internal issues that the only person who could calm him down was someone he never expected it to be: Poe. Fans of the opposites attract and enemies-to-lovers will not want to miss out on Poe and Alaric's story because in addition to being a fantastic and super steamy taboo romance, Saffron A. Kent has done a spectacular job tying up the series and giving the last St. Mary's Rebels girl the love and soulmate that she has always deserved and dreamed of. This is my favorite book to date in the series. With the introduction of several new characters, I can't wait to read Echo and Reign's The Hatesick Diaries next. I highly recommend this book to those who love reading angsty and forbidden romance between a possessive and older hero and his sweet vixen of a heroine who loves and tempts him at every turn.

Imperfect Affections by Charmaine Pauls

Imperfect Affections (Beauty in Imperfection #2)From the moment Leon Hart met Violet Starley, his dark attraction and obsession over her dictated his every move. In Imperfect Affections, the consequences of Violet’s actions and the implementation of Leon’s revenge finally comes to fruition when he decides to take her as his wife once and for all. If I were to compare Leon, he would be most similar to his younger brother—Damian Hart from Beauty in the Broken. This book was such a whirlwind of emotions, angst, and drama from start to finish. I was incredibly angry, sad, and frustrated by Violet and Leon’s twisted relationship because it simply did not have to be this way. However, this is a testament to Charmaine Pauls’ ability to write a character who is multi-faceted and may seem irredeemable because of how he treats his heroine to one who is deserving of her love in the end. Leon and Violet's story was simply heartbreaking, action-packed, dirty, and incredibly erotic.
“My love is born from an obsession. It's dark and tainted and full of wrongs, but Violet means everything to me.”
Following the cliffhanger ending from Imperfect Intentions, Leon now knows what Violet has done and vows to punish her for betraying him. This part of the book was incredibly difficult for me to read because of Leon's unnecessarily cruel and twisted actions. I hated what he was doing to Violet and it pained me to see him disregard her feelings when she had no choice in the first place. At this point in the story, Leon wasn't deserving of Violet's affections at all. His actions did have significant consequences in their relationship and in order for him to love and be loved in return, forgiveness was required from both sides. I was highly anticipating the moment Leon found out the truth about Violet and it certainly did not disappoint. In many ways, they both parallel each other because of their upbringing and perspective on love. Violet stole from Leon, which resulted in him stealing her.
“I want Leon. I want the life I glimpsed with him, even if it's imperfect. Even if it's not love. Because sometimes, there's beauty in imperfection.”
In the end, this book was everything I wanted for Violet and Leon—despite all the untruths and suffering they had to endure from each other. Their love wasn't perfect but it was enough for them. Actions often speak louder than words and it was clear to me that Leon was willing to protect and sacrifice himself for Violet no matter the cost. Gus and Elliot also got what they deserved. Fans of Charmaine Pauls and the Diamond Magnate world will not want to miss out on Leon and Violet's journey together because it beautifully ties up the entire Hart saga and any loose ends between our couple. It was so wonderful to see everyone again including Zoe and Maxime, Damian and Lina, as well as Ian and Cas. I highly recommend this duet to those who love reading dark and steamy romance with a morally gray anti-hero and a naive heroine who wears her heart on her sleeve.

The Ruthless Groom by Monica Murphy

The Ruthless Groom (Arranged Marriage, #2)Following the cliffhanger ending that shattered the temporary truce and happiness that Charlotte and Perry found in The Reluctant Bride, the story in The Ruthless Groom picks up immediately where the previous book left off. Seamus McTiernan has re-entered Charlotte Lancaster's life and is determined to destroy her relationship and marriage with Perry Constantine. Although we still do not know the reason why, Charlotte and Perry's marriage ceremony and show must go on despite their frustrations at the situation. I thought this was an excellent sequel to the first book as Perry and Charlotte's relationship experience a transformation as they navigate the angst and drama that comes with being a couple. They went from indifferent strangers in an arranged marriage to reluctant allies and eventually lovers. The sexual chemistry and tension between these two was super steamy and hot.
"She's the most valuable thing in the world. My world. The Chevelle isn't my most prized possession. My wife is."
Despite wanting to shake Perry for making assumptions and distrusting Charlotte, I loved how honest they were with their bodies. There is no denying the fact that these two are incredibly attracted to each other because they simply burned up the pages with every interaction since much of it takes place during Perry and Charlotte's honeymoon. I also enjoyed the hate/love dynamic that these two had because of Charlotte's past. If I were to sum up Perry and Charlotte's relationship in a few words it would be "a blossoming and fragile love." As the second son in the Constantine family, Perry was reckless with his life and spoiled but he always had a heart of gold. In a way, Perry is Charlotte's white knight and I truly believe she deserves him too. As someone who wears her heart on her sleeve, meeting Perry was Charlotte's one chance at happiness and a love like no other.
"He's so deeply embedded inside of me it's as if we're fused together. Like we belong to each other."
In the end, Perry and Charlotte's smoking hot and angsty relationship will continue in The Reckless Union as we're all left reeling from another shocking cliffhanger ending. The enemy has finally made their move and Perry will stop at nothing to keep Charlotte safe because she is his. I absolutely loved how Perry went from this charming and affable young man to someone who is equally possessive, dirty, dominant, and ruthless—just like his older brother, Winston Constantine from Skyscraper Cinderella. I have a soft spot for Perry Constantine and Monica Murphy has done a wonderful job with his character. I simply can't wait to see how it all ends because I am actively rooting for Charlotte and Perry's happy ending. Fans of the Midnight Dynasty world will not want to miss out on this latest installment in the story! I highly recommend this trilogy to those who love the arranged marriage trope as well as the push/pull dynamic between the seemingly charming but possessive hero and his sweet but naive heroine.
