Amelia Wilde continues to blow me away with her stories and characters because I went from being conflicted about what Jameson was doing to feeling sympathetic to his brokenness. The fact that he talks to Snowball, a bird that he rescued, was incredibly endearing and charming. Lily herself was also a force to be reckoned with—brave, innocent, kind, understanding, and defiant. Her interactions and chemistry with Jameson were explosive, charged, and steamy.

In the end, I loved reading Jameson and Lily's beginning. The book does end with a shocking cliffhanger and now it's Lily's turn to change Jameson's world and outlook on life. Despite their rough beginning, it didn't take long for both characters to start caring for each other. In many ways, her chance meeting with Jameson has irrevocably changed her perspective on the meaning of justice, her grandfather's shady dealings, and the path of law school that was initially set out for her. All she ever wanted was freedom and she experienced that with Jameson. I'm excited to see what Amelia Wilde will have in store for these two free-spirited individuals who might be each other's salvation. Fans of Mason Hill (Net Worth) and Gabriel Hill (Power Play) will not want to miss out on this story because it features the youngest brother who has always been known to seek justice against the corrupted.

A Cruel Arrangement by Tijan

Tijan makes a thrilling and fantastic comeback with her Kings of New York series in A Cruel Arrangement featuring Ashton Walden and Molly Easter—two characters we previously met in Trace West and Jess Montell's book, A Dirty Business. The story immediately picks up after the devastating and shocking events of the previous book so I would not consider this a standalone. While the author does shift the tone and point of view of the story to Ashton and Molly, Trace and Jess still play significant roles in the plot and mystery behind the deaths of Justin Worthing and Kelly as well as the brewing mafia war between the Walden-West families and the Worthing family. I appreciate how Tijan is able to craft a story that is not only interesting and unpredictable but the romance, while understated yet intense, shines through quite beautifully. Molly is the light to Ashton's darkness.

"Molly was mine. She was either my target, my mark, my woman, or my cross to bear. Any and all ways I split it, she was mine."

In the end, Ashton and Molly's story was one that I never expected but it had everything I loved most in a romance—an anti-hero who embraces his darkness but turns soft with his woman and a heroine whose happy-go-lucky and practical outlook on life exasperates her man but he still loves her anyway. I never expected their union but after learning their history and past relationship to each other, everything made perfect sense. While Ashton was not a good man by any means, his growing love and concern for Molly—the light of his life, was beautifully explored and written. Molly herself was a quirky and endearing character who tells it like it is. She lived a hard life but survived it nonetheless. This series has solidified my love for Tijan's beautiful prose and multi-dimensional characters. You absolutely won't regret giving this series a try if you love reading mafia romances.

Step-Baller by Dani Wyatt

In her third installment in the Wanting What's Wrong series, Dani Wyatt continues the step-sibling and forbidden romance trope that she started in Step-Hero with Step-Baller. Mina and Jackson's story was full of steam, dirty talk, and a taboo love that was worth fighting for. Jackson has been in love with Mina for a long time and similarly, Mina's feelings for her step-brother also change as they grew older. This might be my second favorite after Trent and Kat because despite this book being smut, there was actual progression and drama between the characters. Mina dreams of becoming a fashion designer and the designs that she entered in a contest has offered her a place in New York. The only problem is how to get there. Her attempt at asking the local rich kids at her school ends in failure but Jackson unexpectedly appears and we're provided a much closer look into their relationship and the sinful desires that he has for her.

"No matter what, remember I'm the one that loves you. I'm the only one you'll ever love, too.

What they both didn't expect was for her to lose her memories. The amnesia was certainly a surprising turn of events and Jackson had no qualms taking advantage of it. While it was wrong of him to do so, he was willing to risk everything for Mina's love. Overall, I really enjoyed this book and I liked seeing Mina's "other" side because all of the feelings that she previously repressed for Jackson as his step-sister were unleashed. Even when Mina regained her memories in the end, they were both devoted and in love with each other. Fans of Dani Wyatt will not be disappointed by her sex scenes because they were incredibly spicy and filthy. I highly recommend this book to those who like taboo and forbidden romance between step-siblings with an intense and possessive hero who will stop at nothing to claim his sweet but feisty heroine.
