Blog Tour: Heartless by Jade West

Heartless, A Midnight Dynasty novel, by Jade West is now live!

In a single moment, she becomes my obsession...

Elaine Constantine will be mine.

And her destruction is only my beginning.

I've known all my life that the Constantines deserved to be wiped from the face of the earth, only a smoking crater left where their mansion once stood. But that's a bedrock knowledge, something eternal that lives in my blood. Tonight, I infiltrate their lives, twine myself into their deceitful inner workings so I can take them apart piece by piece.

That's my plan until I see her, the woman in gold with the sinful curves and the blonde curls. My will to dominate her runs as deep as the hate I have for her last name.

No matter how beautifully she bends beneath my hands, I'll leave her shattered, a broken toy for her cruel family.

Excerpt

“Stay away from me!” she snapped, and this time around she tried to pull away. She lashed out with her hands and knees, a look of rage on her face as she tried to fight me.

She barely even managed to touch me before I pinned her, wrists high. Her clutch tumbled to the floor and the contents fell out onto the carpet. Makeup and cell and purse. She was panting, scared, hating me with every breath, but still she couldn’t fight it. She couldn’t hide the truth under the lies and the lashing out.

She wanted me.

And I wanted her.

Right there and then, beyond all doubt, I knew it. We were both crazy fucking freaks in a crazy fucking world.

“I never had you down for a stalker,” she rasped as her breath calmed. “Your family would laugh at you if they could see you right now. That or break your kneecaps.”

“What makes you think my attendance is about you?” I snarled. “I could be tracking down any one of your repulsive family right now.”

She ground her stomach against my swollen dick in my pants, and she laughed at me. Somewhere, summoned from a deep little surge of spirit inside her, she laughed at me.

“It seems the Constantine family aren’t all so repulsive, are we?” she said. “Not since you’re hard for one of us.”

“This has nothing to do with my cock,” I told her. “Your family are all due to perish, I’m just fulfilling my oath to live up to my family name.”

“Take me,” she whispered, and it surprised me so much I caught my breath. “I mean it,” she said. “Please, just fuck me before I die. At least give me that one little pleasure, tease me before you destroy me.”

Jesus Christ, she was already trashed on champagne. Her lips were so inviting. Her legs were a honey trap as she spread them for me. Her tits were aching to be mauled, and hurt, and teased.

I asked her the question again. “Who the fuck else is after you, Elaine?”

Heartless by Jade West

Heartless (Starcrossed Lovers Trilogy, #1)I'm not sure what to think about this book. It might be the first one to render me speechless. Heartless takes place in the same world as the Dark Fairy Tales anthology, also known as Midnight Dynasty. I was really looking forward to this book but the hero, Lucian Morelli, was a bit more than I bargained for. He is cruel, ruthless, heartless, and a sadist. Some of the things he said and did bothered me a lot. He treats women very poorly and considers them objects, more or less. On the other hand, Elaine Constantine is broken, emotional, suicidal, and a masochist. The Constantine's and Morelli's have hated each other for years and are always trying to one up or kill each other. Lucian and Elaine's relationship could essentially be rendered down to a twisted Romeo and Juliet one.
"I hated the smell of her. I hated the taste of her. I hated her voice, and her stare, and her whole life. But still, I wanted her."
Lucian is obsessed with Elaine and will do anything to have her. Some of the scenes made me a little uncomfortable and I've read a lot of dark romances. Unfortunately, I could not stand Lucian because he wanted to hurt and break Elaine. I felt sorry for Elaine because she was in his warpath. She didn't deserve his cruelty nor her family's. It seems like they hate her. There is a lot going on with Elaine, which is why she continues to seek out drugs and alcohol to numb the pain. This is probably one of the darkest books I've read by Jade West or any author really.
"I could never be with Lucian. I should never want to be. I could never dig myself out of the life I created, amongst the people who'd created me."
In the end, I do believe that dark romance lovers will absolutely love this book. It just wasn't for me because there were a lot of triggers (violence, sexual abuse, criminal activities, sadism and masochism). However, I do think the story is rather compelling and has a lot of promise. Since this is the first book in a trilogy, maybe Lucian and Elaine's relationship will adapt and transform into something truly wonderful. The book ends in a cliffhanger of sorts so be ready for that!

Hello Stranger by Jade West

Hello StrangerThis book was a special one and I'm not sure if I should recommend it because it's heartbreaking, soul-crushing, and terribly sad. From the very first page, you can almost feel how melancholy it is. Hello Stranger, in my opinion, is Jade West's best book to date. It was romantic, angsty, sensual, and sexy. I will never forget this book and its beloved characters, Logan, Chloe... and Jackie. This book deals with death so it's best to be prepared. If you want a good cry, this is the book for you. I had no idea and went into it blind... it crushed my heart. I loved and hated it but I don't regret reading this beautiful love story between two strangers who were essentially soulmates.

"She was a lifeline in my pain, a beautiful radiance in my stormy world, filled with grey."

Hello Stranger starts out with two strangers on a train. They don't notice each other at first but fate decides to intervene by dropping Chloe's bookmark, which Logan picks up. Logan doesn't think much of it but part of him hopes to see her again. They do meet up in the same train ride and he gives it back to her. The two eventually find mutual interest in books and realize their similar tastes in authors. It was really sweet to watch how shy Chloe was and how much she wanted to talk to Logan but he was so serious and solemn. And there is a reason why. At first, they don't talk much but their meetings on the train have become so much more. It turns out that they work at the same hospital and will be working together.

"All hellos ultimately have their goodbyes. And all goodbyes hurt so much harder if the love they are founded on is so damn strong. Still, all hellos with people you love are worth it. They are all worth their weight in gold."

Logan considers himself a pessimist while Chloe is an optimist. Both are complete opposites but they complete each other. Reading this book was really hard because I cared so much for Logan and Chloe. At the same time, we find out that Logan is taking care of his dying mother and is trying to complete her bucket list. Logan's life has been full of constant pain and sadness but he also has a secret. That secret will compel him to drive Chloe away. In the end, Hello Stranger is an unforgettable book about making the most of the time left with your loved ones before it's too late. It's about taking life one day at a time and looking at the world half full. This was a true gem and I highly recommend it to those of you who want a deeply moving love story.
