Make It Sweet by Kristen Callihan
Make It Sweet
by Kristen Callihan happens to be one of those "feel good" types of romances that will have you giddy with how cute, romantic, and angsty it can be. Although it started off slow, the story soon picks up when Emma and Lucian first meet each other. What happens when you put a retired hockey player who happens to be a secret baker with an adorable and sweet actress? You get a lovely romantic comedy with a lot of sweet and heartbreaking moments."I am alive in a way I haven't been before. My world is brighter, more real, when you're in it."The slow burn romance between Emma and Lucian was my favorite part of the book. They were certainly attracted to each other but both were wary of starting a relationship. Lucian isn't the "alpha" hero you would expect from a romance like this. He's actually really shy, sweet, unsure, and broken. I feel like Emma was the more calm and confident one in this relationship. She is his light at the end of the tunnel. I adored the angsty moments even though I wanted to smack Lucian for being an idiot. Thankfully, it didn't last very long. I loved how both characters were dealing with career setbacks but found comfort in each other.
""I loved you, Em. Almost from the beginning. But I didn't love me."In the end, this was such a beautiful and romantic story between two people who were struggling to find purpose in life again. Instead, they found purpose, love, and comfort in each other. If you're looking for a story that will have you smiling AND crying, then I highly recommend this book. I'm really looking for future books about Brommy, Anton, Tina, and even Sal. I usually don't gravitate towards sports romance or anything that has to do with Hollywood but this one managed to capture my attention. I've read books by Kristen Callihan before and loved them (VIP series). I'm itching to read her Game On series now, which I have put on the back burner for some time.

A love full of hate as well as hunger.
The thing about my life is...I was never in control of it.
I just I thought I was.
I thought I had everything figured out—a good career, fun hobbies, a bright future, but everything changed when I found an ivy-cloaked house, tucked in a forgotten valley, hiding the man who would corrupt my world forever.
I thought I was successful, until he showed me fortune and happiness could be snatched away in an instant.
I believed I was blessed, but really, I was cursed.

Scoundrel of My Heart by Lorraine Heath
Scoundrel of My Heart
is Lorraine Heath's latest book and I couldn't be more excited to read it because it features Lord Griffith Stanwick and Lady Kathryn, side characters who were briefly introduced in Beauty Tempts the Beast. Griffith was Althea's older brother and Kathryn was one of her closest friends. Unexpectedly, this book takes us back before the Stanwick's fall from grace and lost everything. I have been intrigued by these two characters ever since I met them in Althea's book. Griffith was always distracted, nostalgic for what could have been, and filled with a sense of urgency to redeem his family. I couldn't help but be captivated by him. With that little glimpse, I was really glad to see that Lorraine Heath was writing a book for him.Usually, I don't like the "best friend brother and sister's friend" trope but Griffith and Kathryn made it work and they have known each other since they were young. I find it incredibly amusing that he calls her Freckles and is enamored with her red hair. This part of the book felt "normal" but the story soon shifts to one that is dark, tragic, and angsty. It's been a long time since I read a Lorraine Heath book but she excels at writing these types of heartbreaking "enemies-to-lovers" stories. Griffith and Kathryn's love story was actually quite romantic and even frustrating at times, especially when Griffith laments on how he is the spare.
The main crux of this entire story is that Kathryn needs to marry well in order to claim her inheritance. We're introduced to this "Bachelor-esque" Duke of Kingsland who is looking for a wife and Kathryn endeavors Griffith to help her, even at the cost of his own heart. I thought this was incredibly romantic, especially considering what happened to his family and how he feels like he isn't worthy of her. Although Griffith transformation in less than a year was questionable, I still enjoyed his growth. I liked that Kathryn was given a choice to continue her pursuit with the duke or be with Griffith. In the end, I thoroughly enjoyed this book and would recommend it those who like stories that are emotional and with a hero who will gladly sacrifice himself for his heroine. I look forward to reading the Duke of Kingsland's book next as well as Griffith and Althea's older brother Marcus.
