First and foremost: Can you believe this is the second to last book in the Dollars series?! I can't either! Also, thank you to Pepper Winters and her awesome team for providing me with an ARC. This review may contain spoilers.Eight hours later, I'm still reeling over that ending. You thought the last book's cliffhanger was bad? Well, wait until you finish Thousands. The book starts immediately right after Hundreds and we see the aftermath of Elder's loss of control and Pim's decision to leave him for his sake. Thankfully their separation doesn't last long and Elder soon comes to the realization that he loves Pim and can't live with out her. In fact, the same can be said of Pim. She loves Elder and wants to experience everything with him. She is so desperate for love and the man she has chosen... wants to keep his distance for her own good. I guess the best way to describe this book is pent-up sexual frustration at its best/worst and a push and pull from both sides.
"There was nothing platonic or grateful about my love. It was cruel and wicked and unwanted because love almost destroyed me once, and it would destroy me again if I did what I was hardwired to do and hurt her."Don't get me wrong, I love angst, but what Elder was doing to his relationship with Pim was extremely frustrating and hard to understand at first. He does have his reasons why and I personally thought Pepper Winters did a wonderful job fleshing out more of his character by giving us more background to his guilt over money, possessive need for control, and things in three. As for Pim, the best way to describe her is that she has grown into a woman with sexual desires and confidence. I loved it! She has a fragile heart but isn't afraid to stand up for herself and her love for Elder. The fact that she was even willing to fight him for it made me want to cheer.
"Pain lashed through her gaze before she tipped her nose arrogantly. 'You'll never know what I was going to say because you cut me off. Love—that silly word. I don't think I know the meaning of it anymore. I thought you deserved my love.'"And when they finally finally gave up all pretenses and made love to one another? It was such a perfect moment. Pim's reunion with her mother in England was also another poignant moment in the book for me. Get ready to cry! We also learn something shocking about Pim in this book and it's... heartbreaking. I know, more heartbreak right? I sincerely hope it's not true.
Anyway, Pepper has been hyping this up for awhile now but Jethro Hawk and Nila Weaver from the Indebted series makes an appearance in this book. It was a short cameo but amazing nonetheless. In the end, I thoroughly enjoyed Thousands and I'm honestly desperate and excited to see how it will all end in Millions.
