Lola and Santiago's relationship was unexpected because of how they met each other, but I also loved how it developed over time into something that was real and authentic. Despite my initial reservations about their relationship, Lola and Santiago had incredible chemistry with each other and their explosive banters made for some extraordinary and steamy moments. As the story progresses, it soon becomes clear that Lola has been keeping some major secrets from everyone—secrets that threatened to unravel everything she had built for herself as well as any chances of being with the man she was coming to love.

In the end, Lola and Santiago's destined relationship will stay with me for a long time. At one point, I was on the edge of my seat because I desperately wanted them to have a happy ending with each other. The side characters were also great including Alma—Santiago's adorable daughter, Gordo, Luis, Diego, and Miguel—all of whom became found family for Lola. The antagonists were truly evil and I relished the fact that Lola was able to get her revenge and close that chapter in her life. The epilogue brought tears to my eyes because Lola got her happy ending with those she loved, especially after all the pain and suffering that she went through. We're also given a glimpse into the future through Alma's eyes, which left me feeling proud but also sad at the same time. I highly recommend this book for anyone who is looking for a heartbreaking and powerful love story between an infamous cartel leader and his strong and resilient heroine.
